I think you would have more impact if it filled the frame more. Try cropping off the sides. I feel there is to much negative space on both sides for a central subject.

Oh and I love the lighting and focus on this!

I love (been using that word a lot in my comments lately! LOL) but I love the lighting and colors of the petals! However, something doesn't set right with me. I tried blocking off the black with a book like bear suggested but it still looked 'wrong' imo. I think its the angle of the flower. The way it faces out of the frame.

This image has its faults as you mentioned but it has some really great elements as well. I can see why you liked it enough to post it. I love the fact its a scenery shot but the flowers really pop forward! Great depth to the image! The one white one breaks up the pattern and creates a pleasing image to look at! Excellent! I think its a keeper regardless of its faults.
