Almost abstract ...

The extremely narrow DOF produces a blurred white thing in the front that's so large it distracts me.

Reach for the Wood

This seems to be identical to "King Kong's Next Fling" from the Scene-It challenge, which would mean a DQ for both.

But looking at it as a photo ... it doesn't really grab me. Maybe with higher contrast, it would. I think it also might benefit from not as tight a crop. Part of the interest seems to be the contrast in size between the two wooden figures, so I'd like to see more of the larger one.

Nice choice of subject. Closeups like this really benefit, though, from sharp focus and good exposure. This one's pretty soft, neaning the lines aren't terribly crisp, and the highlights seem blown out.

Where is it currently Autumn? :) I can see the photo has the "feeling" of Autumn, but given the date of the challenge, it jars me.

She Moves

Nice subject and good energy in her motion. However, the lighting's kind of flat - maybe you could enhance the contrast in processing? And there seems to be a fair amount of noise. I'm guessing you were at a relatively high ISO to stop the motion as much as possible, which creates noise. If you don't have noise reduction software, the Community Version of Noiseware is free and pretty good.

This is a great shot. Good subject, great eyes, nice composition. But since the eyes, as usual, are the real attention-grabber, they should be very sharp. It looks like you (or your camera) focused instead on the beak. Also, a broader DOF would've brought out the details in the feathers better. Still, a 6.

Seasoning Study

Are those spices? I can't tell from the picture, but I'm guessing that's the meaning of "seasoning."

This could be better, for me at least. The shape is interesting, but the overexposure, lack of much contrast, and varied focus along its length make it hard for me to understand what I'm looking at. And purely as an abstract, the dull colors don't grab me. I also find the bits to the left distract me from the main shape.

Just my opinion; I can see where others might really like it!

This subject has a lot of potential. However, your picture suffers from a few problems. The good news is you can correct all of them either by taking it again or in processing. :)

First, it's very low contrast. Try using the auto levels feature in your software. Or search Google for "Photoshop levels" or "Photoshop curves." Many programs other than Photoshop offer those features; I just find it easiest to find tutorials using Photoshop as a keyword.

Second, the dead straight-on angle isn't nearly as interesting as I'm sure you could find. Try going to one corner, or putting the house in one corner of the pic, or catching the angle of the roof against the sky.

Finally, and this isn't as critical as the other two, it's probably not as sharp as it could be. It seems like it's focused fine, but digital photos always are a little blurred in the fine detail when they come out of the camera. Try playing around with either the sharpen command in your software or experiment with/learn about the "unsharp mask."

Good luck!

Interesting idea, to connect a horoscope to the scene before you. However, at least for me, the composition doesn't work well. With a different composition, like putting the paper in the lower left corner while the natural beauty fills the rest of the frame, it would be much better.

Also, when putting text elements into a picture, I think simpler is better. I'm not going to spend time reading every one of the visible horoscopes to see anything relevant to the picture. And if you meant your title to tell me what it says, then again, it needn't occupy such prominence.

Unless, of course, your point was to take a picture mostly of the horoscope, in which case I revert back to a picture of horoscopes doesn't grab me.
