I'm guessing the score came from a lack of contrast and a lack of WOW! factor. The angle's definitely interesting and fits the subject. But the heads of the audience kind of blend into the background.

I know it was basic editing, but I wonder how it would look if you darkened the background stuff and lightened their heads.

Very exciting, engaging shot! Please put the story in the details. What were the kids doing out there in the first place? Did the girl hang on? Was this an unusually high tide or storm surge or something?

Rob, I think this composition is really strong and your focus is dead on. Her pose is sexy but also strong, and the background is nicely blurred. Frankly, I'm surprised at the score.

I think the lighting hurt you, esp. the blown areas along her back. Were they blown in the original?

Have you learned how to adjust light using soft light layers? Check out Idnic's tutorial and give this another shot. I think you could darken the background and lighten her face and really improve things.

As other TSers have said, I like the abstract quality. I also really like the colors. Have you tried blurring it more to see whether you like it?
