Hushby xianartComment: Well, what am I going to tell you, Christian? You knew you were tempting DPC fate with razor-thin DOF and low lighting. The composition and DOF do strongly drive my eye right into the apple. :) I think I'd just like it better if there were more to find when it got there. I bet this would look great as a painting! |

Cherries in Glassby KelliComment: Kelli, my first question to you would be whether you intended to make it look like this. I agree with the commenter who said it was harsh editing, but if that was your goal, then I'll just congratulate you and move on. :)
For DPC scoring, though, you have to get rid of harsh reflections. Try putting a tissue in front of the flash or lights. Diffusers work best when they're close to the subject and the light is far enough behind them to light them up totally. I just saw a picture where the guy put a piece of tracing paper across a hanger and bent the wire into a stand.
Also, the background, at least on my calibrated CRT, is so dark as to almost disappear, with just enough detail visible to distract me a lot. I wonder whether even in processing you could correct that. Even a bit brighter would settle my eyes down. |

Floral Stillby NikonJebComment: A pretty shot, Jeb. I think 5.8 is about right. I'm not sure you could improve the score much, but to me, the partially blurred, partially sharp bits distract me. I think I'd like it even better if it were more blurred, making it more of an abstract. Wonderful colors and contrast, though. :) |

Gerberasby krnodilComment: A beautiful shot and a great score! Congrats on breaking 90th percentile and having a new 4th personal best. I particularly like the arrangement with the brights and darks reversed top and bottom. Adding a fave. :) |

peachesby seeComment: I like the arrangement very much. My main suggestion would be to increase the contrast to reduce what seems to be a very yellowish tint, but might just be the real colors all being toward yellow. In particular, I'd try to lighten the background a bit so the basket stands out more. |

Blossomsby BrianRComment: I like the arrangement a lot, and the background adds interest. I would like it better with something on the left, but if you intended that gap to add tension, it's working. :)
The lighting is pretty flat. A light to the right, for instance, could've added shadows to fill the gap on the left.
It also seems pretty low in contrast. I'd try bumping it up using levels, curves, or even just brightness/contrast. Highlight the wonderful variety of tones in the bricks.
Finally, I'd like to see more detail on the statue. It's so dark on my calibrated CRT that there are lots of areas that are pure black. |

DSC_7100.jpgby kashiComment: I agree with Jayson that I think you need to stop down a bit to get the whole thing in focus. Having said that, it looks to me that it's oversharpened. That might be an artifact of resizing, but look at it full-sized. The diagonal, repeating lines are nice. I think I'd tone down the bright spot in the upper right. My eye keeps moving from the lower curve to the upper to the bright spot and out of the frame. |
