The diagonal swing is nice for the composition, but my eye naturally follows that swing and finds that it goes from in-focus to out of focus. This could have been the direction of the plant, if the top went forward or back enough to fall out of your plane of focus, or maybe the top part was swaying a bit. But the drop-off of focus is what keeps this shot from being effective, for me.

it looks a little oversharpened to me, too.

I agree with Jayson that I think you need to stop down a bit to get the whole thing in focus. Having said that, it looks to me that it's oversharpened. That might be an artifact of resizing, but look at it full-sized. The diagonal, repeating lines are nice. I think I'd tone down the bright spot in the upper right. My eye keeps moving from the lower curve to the upper to the bright spot and out of the frame.

First off Kashi, let me just say I love your portraits! Really good stuff.

Couple of things on this one. First there is a slight tinge of blue/purple. Not sure if that was the intent, but a little more warmth would really make the picture pop. While I like the depth of field to isolate the subject from the background, I think a bit more a stop or two more to add focus for the entire front grass head would add a bit more impact. It is somthing that is tough to see in the viewfinder, so maybe a couple shots with different apertures so you can evaluate later on the computer. I think the use of the frame is nice and the repeating lines works well. Even though I knocked the WhiteBalance earlier, the overall color palette really works well.

Still a well conceived capture. Hope that helps.

The grain is sharp and I love the bokeh in the background. The diagonal line of the 2 different grains is powerful.
