After the Fireby IvoComment: A bit oversharpened, I think. Otherwise, a nice composition with pretty colors. |

Lennys at Nightby BAMartinComment: I think you hit the nail on the head with a small group, based on your commenters' avg score. I think this is a classic street scene, nicely photographer. I really like the guy looking out the window! |

Adagio in B Minorby posthumousComment: Don, sometimes I feel like you're playing with us. You know exactly what you're doing, and it's like you dare viewers to figure it out. I'll be the first to admit I didn't get it, and I still don't, but just knowing it's yours makes me look more and try to find it. As an image outside the challenge, I agree with Larus that the tones and composition are quite interesting. |

Gravity's Effect on Natureby colorcarnivalComment: I'm back making my rounds, and I'm going to counter what I said earlier. This is a really nice abstract that I just didn't take time to appreciate during voting. The more I look, the more I see, and the more I like it. There are so many little details to spot: little bright spots, clumps and voids, the depth of the drops. I think this would be really great as an oil painting, to add texture to the color and shapes. |

Repetition of Motif with Variationby xianartComment: Christian, you have such a strong visual style that it almost seems pointless to comment. You know exactly what you're doing, and I have a feeling you accomplish what you set out to do, voting be damned. Which of course makes you the perfect Team Sucker. :)
Now, for me, I think I would've cropped this so the top was just above the white buoy on the right. That would make the repetitive themes clearer to me. Heck, go reshoot it for the upside down challenge!
Many of your shots are very dark on my calibrated CRT. I wonder whether that's what you want or our monitors are just different? |

Infinityby jackal9Comment: Jack, I think you portrayed a repeating visual theme well, but not very, very well, which is why I voted this a 6. I didn't go higher because I didn't find that much visually interesting beyond the basic.
Shallow DOF is a nice effect, but it usually has to really deliver something to make a bigger impact, as opposed to being the main point. The question to ask yourself is why the shallow DOF? Did that make the photo better than having them all in focus? In particular, in a challenge where you're trying to show a repeating visual theme, the shallow DOF tends to drive the eye to only one example instead of the repetition.
I do like the orange bits. :) Message edited by author 2007-08-07 00:01:19. |
