Waspberriesby posthumousComment: Interesting shot, Don. The leaf's veins do a nice job of framing the galls and driving my eye down to them. The strong color is very pretty, too. Looks like you got some nice detail on the leaf on the right side. My main problem is that I like macros to have a fair amount of sharp detail to explore. As you know, I highly appreciate deliberate blur, but this feels more like a lack of DOF control in a macro, which is definitely one of the hard things to get right. I look forward to more explorations of your sexy lens. ;) |

B&W Study #6by jaysonmcComment: I voted this a 6. I like the diagonal composition and the details in the stem and bottom of the crown. As with many photos, I think I would've liked it even better with more contrast. I think you did quite well lacking a real macro lens. |

Porcini Mushroom with Lichen and Pine Needlesby JuliBocComment: I voted this is a 6, Julianne. I like the composition and choice of subject, and the mushroom's color is reflected nicely in the needles. I tend to prefer higher contrast, though. Also, as a macro, I look for really crisp details. I see them in the lichen, but not in the mushroom. Of course, DOF is a major challenge in macros. The lichen actually looks a little oversharpened, although that might be an artifact of the small image size. I wonder how this would look if you did a gaussian blur on a duplicate layer and then set the opacity to about 50%? It might add a nice glow to the mushroom. |

Dainty Daisyby SteveJComment: I like the lighting, color, and DOF in this shot. The composition bothers me. This is the kind of subject where centered works well for me, but I'd rather it was truly centered instead of just a little off to the right. Congrats on your new 5th-best score! Relativity Speakingby seeComment: Man, this STILL messes with my mind, and I've been looking at it for a week and a half. :) Congrats on a personal top 5! |

My Cabin, and It Dioesn.t Fit.by BrianRComment: Brian, I think this might work better with diffuse lighting instead of straight on. It also might help to have something showing through the door to give it some depth. Did you fingers hit random keys as you entered the title, or were you making a self-reference about letters that didn't fit? :) |

Lead Laced Cancer Stickby MuppetComment: I like the idea, but yeah, the lighting and low contrast don't help it. You could use this as a processing exercise - see what you can do about the contrast and sharpness. |
