I think these are galls, though I don't know what specific type. I found them on the leaf of an oak tree.

I converted to b/w by multiplying the red channel with itself. Then I made that a separate layer and blended it in color dodge mode. then I put some levels on it and then I increased the saturation on the yellows. resize and sharpen.

The leaf texture looks like crocodile skin - and yes, those are some quite hairy galls. Hmmm... now I'm getting all sorts of ideas about the Garden of Eden - your lens corrupts again. Get thee behind me, Satan.

Interesting shot, Don. The leaf's veins do a nice job of framing the galls and driving my eye down to them. The strong color is very pretty, too. Looks like you got some nice detail on the leaf on the right side. My main problem is that I like macros to have a fair amount of sharp detail to explore. As you know, I highly appreciate deliberate blur, but this feels more like a lack of DOF control in a macro, which is definitely one of the hard things to get right. I look forward to more explorations of your sexy lens. ;)

I guess I understand why you call it your "sexy lens", the hairy balls are a good subject model.

Sounds like a lot of work in the post processing, you lost me after the B&W conversion part. Still, it appears to be worth it. Very nice composition and rich colors.

Nice detail Don and I like the bokeh. Kind of hairy little balls aren't they?

This be beautiful, Don. When the Team Suck results page comes up, I tend to glance quickly to see if I can "peg" a shot as someone's. I thought this might have been Christian's. Lovely color and depth. Nice work with that sexy lens of yours.

Too bad DOF is so hard to achieve in macros. A good view with nice color and detail in the part that was in focus.
