Call Me!

Call Me!

I really like this! The lighting is good with lots of nice shadows and contrasts that makes the black and white work well. I also like the fact that you have got in close. The smile, the phone, and the twirling of the cord all suggest an intimacy, which is further complimented by the close crop. Very well expressed.

Very colorful and I like how you have taken this is an open natural setting instead of indoors or somewhere with a modern background. The inclusion of some motion is good too, but the overall image isnt very sharp.

Behind the eight ball

Behind the eight ball
by pcody

Comment:
Did the ball move or was this handheld? What is interesting is that the white of the ball clearly has some camera shake (or else you have a very dirty/smudged ball), but the doll is very sharp. This certainly has humor, but not really sure what else to say about it. The OOF 8 just seems to dominate the image, which I guess is the point of it due to the saying. This doesnt really do much for me, sorry.

As busy as a bee

I like the composition with the flower and bee in the corner, although not sure I like the background colors of red, orange, and green. I understand you likely had no control over it, but to me they seem to clash a little. Interesting use of dof also, not sure having the front wing OOF and the back wing in focus really adds that much and probably would have liked the entire bee in focus. It's a good macro shot.

Looks like you may have some hot pixels, such a shame we cant clone. Anyways, the light reflections are good and miminal, something I often find annoying with fruit, especially the shiny kind. There feels like just the smallest amount of tilt with the apples higher than the oranges, otherwise it could be the heavier amount of shadow on the apples that are making it look like that. I'm assuming you had the light closer to the oranges, which is probably why they are more prominent and the apples are more in shadows. I like the shadows, it gives the feeling of much more dramatic lighting. The shadows on the bottom of the oranges just looks a little odd. Overall I like it, but there seems to be something missing and I'm not sure what.

I'm assuming this is stained glass window and so the middle item could possibly be a church organ or modern music/speaker thing? Or a staircase maybe? The shape almost looks like a black hole with a spacecraft about to fly into it. Not sure what to say about this - it's certainly interesting. The light on the top of the center item looks like an overhead tube light, which is a little distracting. Very abstract.

Totally Tubular!

Firstly I admit my ignorance at not knowing what these items are. They look like strange light bulbs. I do know the saying and so I'm going to assume there is a link rather than vote you down for my ignorance. The mix of colors is interesting, it all looks fairly sharp, although I get a feeling of it being fairly cluttered. I dont know if these are singular items put together in a group of three or whether they are all connected, but my eyes are not sure on what part to look at. You have them dead center with some negative space above it. I'm not sure if the top black area was really needed. A close crop at the top to fill the frame may have helped more because of the tight crop at the bottom, giving it a slight symmetry. It's not a wow shot to me, but it is certainly interesting.

Nicely caught. Without the droplets I think the motion blur of the head would be wrongly seen as a 'bad' thing. It certainly gives him/her a personality. Real shame about the water, tho.

This seems very soft to me without having the mood set by a deliberate soft focus. The colors are good, doesnt appear to have any blown out hightlight, contrast isnt bad, and it nicely fills the frame. I think the major flaw is that it is just not sharp enough and thus loses quite an impact.
Dog Day Afternoon

Dog Day Afternoon

Comment:
Hrm, first thing I think of is that the crop is a little too tight. I'm guessing this was to get rid of the background junk. The expression on the dog is good, certainly captures the message of the title and phrase, however, it could have done with being a little more sharp. Additionally, you could have tried getting down on his/her level rather than shooting from above. I understand how difficult it is to get pictures of pets/animals, but having him/her lay down would give more effect to the lazy part of the phrase. Altering the usual setup of pet pictures can often add a dimension to them that makes them come across a little less like a quick snapshot.
