Trianglesby MAKComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
I like the low lighting and leading lines of comp here, though I think it's also a little on the safe side - the horizon looks a little too centered. Though I see the triangles and geometry, like the obvious ones in the mountains, but also the road/field junction, this image simply isn't as literal as voters like.
The contrails, especially the topmost one in the sky, detract from the triangular shape of the mountains, and of course white will always draw the eye like a magnet.
Hope this critique has been of help, feel free to PM me.

September Rainby clickodakComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Yay, I get to critique a fellow Canuck...but also a PB and an HM finish...no pressure ;-) And as also am very familiar with maples and tap some of mine for sirop d'erable each spring, I appreciate the backlit red maple leaves.
Nice composition and lighting (though be careful, some may have thought this a tiny bit underexposed and voted accordingly). Lovely rich saturated colours, especially on the leaves, nice sharp detail on the droplets and the cool green/blue tones of the background which complement the scarlet perfectly...hard to pick holes in this one!
Great work, continue to shoot and please continue to enter challenges!
Hope this critique has been of help, feel free to PM me,

I see a very surreal approach to this challenge in this image, which also makes me a little uneasy. I don't know why, yet.
Yes, this is a water challenge, and there is water splashed on the glass, and it does add interest to the photo; I like the composition. I think, however, that the soft-focus effect and low light on your model makes her look a bit blueish and hence...well, either very ill or dead! Hence the feeling of uneasiness, the slackness in her hand and half-closed/closed eyes just give too much a sense of remoteness from the viewer.
I do hope this critique has been useful, feel free to PM me,

A Rose By Any Other Name by JohnFordComment: Woohoo! I love me photogs who actually post their setup/shoot notes so others can learn how they did it. The fact that you're also a Canuckistanian helps too ;-)
Huge grats on the red!! |
