Bulb burner by kiwinessComment: Thank you all for your votes and comments. This was the first thing that jumped to mind when I saw the smoke challenge announced, although I was a little weary of doing something I had already done before. But it paid off and I am happy :)

What I meant was that if you switch on and off the light very fast the filament doesn't burn right through, it just burns a little like you see in this image. You can do that about 4 times before the filament blows completely. |

Old Horseby Ecce_SignumComment: It's a fine portrait, the composition is good, but like you say there is a little too much noise in it. |

Sunset Daisy.by PhilosComment: Critique Club here:
Hey Peter! I am doing one of my very rare appearances as a member of the critique club, actually I think this only my second or third time this year :) A very strong photo and submission to the backlighting challenge. In my opinion it should have placed a lot higher in the challenge, but you know how it is with flower shots and DPC :) There is not much really I can add to the comments you've already received, saying that there is not much to critisize about at all. The orange/yellow color tones work very well in conjunction with the black background and the backlighting set-up brings out those colors fantastically. The soft feel to the whole image brings in a mellow effect which I like, however the more softness you bring into a photo always brings on a decrease in detail and sharpness, so it is a very fine balance one has to take into account. I personally think there may be just a tad too much softness in this image, I would have liked to have seen just a tiny bit more detail in the petals. I am also wondering why you used ISO 1600 for this shot, did you forget to reset the camera?
All in all a shot you can be very proud of and congratulations on your 21st placing. |
