Over the Next Ridge by CutterComment: Glorious drama in the sky and rock formation detail. Masterful retention of detail in the shadows. Geologically, this is very interesting. The uplift nature of the rocks and the horizon causes the viewer to stand in awe of the history. This is a fine representation of the beauty of the wilderness. One of my top 10 picks. 9 |

Herrick Reservoirby goinskiingComment: The foreground elements of the downed old trees in the mirrored water give the image a very pleasing three dimensional effect. Great control of exposure throughout. The sky is natural looking enough, with pretty good detail in the wispy clouds. The far shore seems just a bit distant with some shadow detail lost in the forest. But, I like the scene. It's one of my top 10 picks. 9 |

Lily On Woodby crikComment: I really like this. Great detail and sharpness on the wood grain and most of the flower. Maybe a slight falloff of sharpness on the edge of the image/flower. I think the lighting is elegant. I especially like the shadows, where you have retained the details. Very good conversion to b&w. Pretty good composition, too. 9 |

Ansel of Arabia by ecmguyComment: This really looks like an AA. Very interesting detail and wonderful tones. Good job on the sky, too. Some of the shadow detail in the deepest part of the dune shadow is lost, but it adds to the mood and interest. Well done! Should be a ribbon contender. 10 |

Tidal Flats at Full Ebbby nickybComment: Wow! Great drama and vanishing lines effect to this scene, as the alternating horizontal stripes of sand and water gain distance from the viewer. To my eye, this is almost an abstract image. I like the sky treatment and the tonal range is rich . Superb 3 dimensional effect with the foreground beach grounding the scene. Who needs mountains, when you have this natural beauty? One of my top 10 picks. 10 |

Quadrilliumsby banmornComment: Fantastic conversion to b&w. Super great control of exposure. I like the detail in the white areas of the petals. Not easy to do with the dynamic light in play. Excellent dark background. I think this may make the top 10. 10 |

Spring Ebb at Nobska Headby OzComment: This is my favorite in this challenge. The composition is very harmonious. The sky is spectacular. The clarity of the image is magnificent. Love the ability to see into the crystal clear water. Superb control of most of the detail in the shadows. The tonal range is very pleasant. I expect this will ribbon with the blue. 10 |

Camelliaby dswannComment: The leaves carry a hint of green on my monitor. It's okay, as AA did some color photography. (And, it might be my imagination.) The group of three blossoms is harmoniously composed. You have matched the way AA presented images like this, with subject well illuminated and bg darkened.
I looked at this again. No color on this review under different ambient lighting. |
