LOOKS LIKE AN EARLY SATURDAY NIGHTby brimacComment: ---Greetings from the Critique Club!---
First impression - Looks like it was shot on the floor.
This is a good idea that needed better execution. Had you set up the shot on a card table with some chips, drinks, ash trays with cigars, etc, this would have scored much higher IMO.
Picture this with the green felt of the table, a stack or 2 of chips and pile of chips in the middle, some smoke wafting through the air . . .
I can see a lot of potential with this idea.
Technically the shot is very strong. Nice motion blur and sharpness in the non-moving elements. Angle is good, so is the lighting.
All that is needed here is a little more time to set up the shot.
I hope this was helpful. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Bokeh Butterflyby NelzieComment: I'll bet you're wondering why your butterfly came in 6th and another butterfly came in first.
Your shot is composed very well. The square crop and main subject placement are very pleasing. As for the bokeh effect, there's not really any out of focus highlights, but then there wasn't any in the top finisher either.
There's not much to critique in this top 10 image. If I had to pick something that made a difference between this one and the top finisher it is the background. Yours a bit busy and fights for attention from the butterfly, albeit only slightly. The blade of grass coming in from the top is a bit on the over exposed side. I would have burned it down in the editing.
Other than that, congratulations on your top 10 finish, and your new personal best by a long shot!
I hope this was helpful. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

NATURE'S GLORYby DustyComment: First impression - Pretty flower, nice composition.
This bokeh thing is difficult to capture. Most definitions of bokeh include some sort of out of focus highlights. However, the blue and the yellow ribbon winners didn't really have that. So bokeh has evolved it seems to be something with out of focus elements that add to the composition. In that case, you were successful. The main flower is very sharp and the background completely blurred.
The shadow falling on the middle of the flower probably takes a but of the impact away. Choosing a flower more in the light and shooting at a different time of day might have helped. The quality of light is excellent.
This is a good shot of a pretty flower that is lacking a certain "wow" factor needed to score higher at DPC.
I hope this was helpful. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Forsakenby ColeyComment: ---Greetings from the Critique Club!---
First impression - The other side of angelic
Meets the challenge - absolutely! The black wings against the drab concrete wall work to set the tone for the whole image. The sullen expression, sagged shoulders, and the model's black hair finish off the effect. Good work on the choice of subject and the costume.
Technically the photo is on solid ground. The only nitpick is the top of her arms are a little over exposed. Maybe a little dodge and burn in PhotoShop would have helped there.
Great image, decent score, probably deserved a higher score IMO.
I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

The Descrated hogby albc28Comment: ---Greetings from the Critique Club!---
First impression -- EEEEWWWWWW!
Meets the challenge - Not very well IMO. A pig roast is hardly desolate unless you're another pig I suppose. If you were going for the 'brown" you missed it by one.
There's not much artistic value here either. The highlights are blown out, there is no obvious composition effort, I could go on.
Moral of the story - Unless the challenge is Carcass, I would think twice about using a half eaten pig for my main subject.
Better luck next time.

Withdrawalby bucketComment: ---Greetings from the Critique Club!---
First impression - nice cold feel, desolation comes across well.
In general I think this is a strong image. It invokes emotions from sadness to helplessness. As I mentioned in comments during the voting, the hand looks a bit too disconnected. Perhaps just a bit more shadow detail around the hand would help, hard to tell without knowing what is or isn't there.
I think the negative space on the left works well. Good decision not to crop in tighter.
6+ is good for an image that takes some artistic risks. DPC voters are not always kind to avant-garde images.
I hope this was helpful. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
