contrary to popular belief wiener dogs aren't all that good to eat... too much cholesterol, a greyhound is much leaner and more muscular, I mean or so I've heard. Yes, rocco and zoe are still in the living!

The image and theme go together nicely. Congratulations on your top 10

lol nah, in my studio. The sushi was from the grocery store. Not as acurate as chinese food, but prettier to look at.

You are one sick puppy, my friend. I know I liked you for a reason. lol

Great layout and spacing. Love the shadows and the POV. My one nit to pick is the lines of the mat converging at the top.

Heh. I've not actually eaten it (I feel that dogs are much too dirty to be worth eating), I've seen dog meat... It's a very red meat...

Koreans and Chinese are the biggest consumers of dogs... Sushi is considered a much 'higher brow' meal made from high quality cuts of much more expensive meats.

They say that Black is the best tasting, followed by multi-colored then yellow... Some people have different views.

Awsome myth to photograph. Well done :)

That is just cruel :P It's a great shot though. Everything looks perfect. A version without the collar would be a great shot in anyone's portfolio.

9, just because I'm an animal lover and just the though of it... well you know ;) but I get the humor and am not offended. Hope this does well.

This isn't a superstition or urban legend is it? I don't think dog ever ended up in sushi, which is seafood. I went to china (altho this looks like japanese) and had some dog myself. It's a bit chewy, very tender, and very fatty.

Doesn't that superstition typically only apply to non-descript deep fried and breaded meat from bad Chinese restaurants? There's no mistaking sushi for anything but fish. Good pic though.

I always thought that dog was a chinese meal. Sushi? The trouble with eating a chinese dog is that a half an hour later you feel like another one!

I gave this a 10 already, but when I went to tell a friend about it I realized you've chosen sushi (typically Japanese cuisine) rather than an item from a Chinese menu, which is what I associate this urban legend with. Oh well, no matter, cause this is still a ribbon in my book.

This is a very nice image, although I do find the lighting a tad harsh in some spots. Great focus, DOF and composition. This image should fare well in this challenge.

I am curious however, as to which urban legend you are associating this image with.

Ah, there's the dog leash. That's pretty cute. I like the texture of the mat underneath. The plate is just a bit blown for my taste, but not a big deal. 7

I like it, but realistically, the leash wouldn't be on the table. Plus, I'd have used a real meaty dish, such as stir fry beef.

Great idea and it made me chuckle - the sushi looks good, but it would be more in keeping with the urban myth if you'd used Chinese food. Possibly my favourite entry in the challenge!

I can honestly say that I don't know what you're talking about in this picture.
But it's a nice, simple picture. With great lightning and good focus.

06/28/2006 01:49:27 PM
I dunno. It's Korea that has the reputation for dog-eating and although Koreans eat sushi, it's borrowed from Japan. However, I can understand that a picture of Bibimbap wouldn't have the same photographic effect. Anyway, just musing ;-) I like the composition and the good focus on the red collar.

06/28/2006 12:51:05 PM
Very clever urban legend shot, the red collar offsets the drab colors of the background, I like it, I put you in my top 5

This is really cute. Not sure about the straight down look, personaly, but its a nice image, everything seems to balance fairly well.

That's a nice photo but there is a disconnect in the symbolism. Sushi is usually fish or vegetable, never meat as far as I know. If the dish had been stew, BBQ sweet and sour - then yes, the allusion would have worked very well. All in all it is a nice photo bu the symbolism does not work for me.

06/28/2006 10:44:53 AM
Didn't know that it was an urban legend that sushi had dog in it.
Isn't that Korean fare? And isn't that reality and NOT superstition?

ewwwwwwwwww. lol. very nicely done. the leash is a great addition. Would liek it better if the shadows were less harsh but very nice otherwise.

You're thinking Korean food, not Japanese - but the point is made, and it is a funny shot.

I lived in South Korea in the 90s and you could pick out your dog from a window and they would slaughter it for you. This picture holds more truth than most people will think!!

Technically, I like the way the photo is being composed. but I can't really associate it to the theme. On the whole, nice colors, and I like the "line" effects the mat made.
