in a world of great things by jagarComment: a shot like this, which is naturally appealing because of high contrast with lots of black and good texture, needs a couple of extra elements to make it really special. In this case, the winner is the man's pose, specifically the way he is looking down and how this echoes the downsloping chairbacks on the right. the symbolic well on the ground doesn't hurt, either.

Alone in the Sunby ecroceComment: there are several visual tricks going on here. The foreshortened feathers echo the bokeh. The bird looks like it's chained by the leg. The bokeh obliterates the sense of depth and looks more like a curtain directly behind the bird,, which in turn makes the bird's perch look like a stage or a pedestal. I'm reminded of King Kong performing on Broadway. It's an absurd photo, but also absurdly entertaining.

lá ceoby NiallOTuamaComment: oh yes the beauty of barely there.
I'm pretty sure those diagonals in the foreground are framing a roof. They are a strong unexpected visual element that pulls the whole image together. I feel like I'm on a boat in the fog. I feel like the world is a boat.
