Overture Ceiling

Well done. I think the trick to an image like this is to have it simple enough to command attention, but complex enough to maintain interest. The white pillar keeps this from being simply a corner shot. It interrupts the vertical symmetry. The added detail on the bottom (a door perhaps?) has a circle in it, which connects it to the circles in the ceiling. Finally, everything is unified by being splashed with squares of light, but the squares themselves are extremely varied, providing interest.

Obviously, when you snap a picture, you don't realize all these things, which is why we talk about having a "feel" for it. Firstly, you trust your instincts to tell you when a shot will be good. Secondly, you develop those instincts by practicing your own photography and studying the photography of others. I apologize for this second paragraph and fully admit that the only reason I'm being so pedantic is because you're 14. But I wouldn't do it if I didn't think you had great potential. Rock on...

I think the sky gives a larger context. There is nothing to change about this picture, as far as I'm concerned. That couple was lucky to have you as a photographer, just for this picture alone.

This picture is a perfect portrayal of defensiveness, of a couple huddling together to protect each other from the world outside. The stone and wood barriers emphasize this idea. And yes, there is also a sense of danger, but it reminds us that most if not all aggression begins with fear.

I think it's because dpc hates OOF, even if it's abstract. I gave you a 6, which may not seem that high but it's the same score I gave the red and yellow ribbon winners. 6 is generally my score for a good, competent shot that meets the challenge.
