eugena you geniusby ShannonLeeComment: This looks like it was taken 30 years ago, and the girl's expression is eternal. With such an incredible subject, I would probably crop closer, but I would be wrong. You created a vista of humanity for her to feel lost in. Perfect. |

by GnarfComment: my reaction is: gorgeous. my reaction is: chocolate. really good milk chocolate from Paris in a wrapper made of real gold foil, AND a creamy liqueur to go with it. Those two lines may seem like a mistake but in a picture with so little detail they are actually refreshing and help balance the composition. This just seems like perfection to me. |

pru 2by TCGuruComment: I like feet! I think they're visually fascinating, and this is a very nice composition. Something about the contrast/tones doesn't quite work for me, though. It seems a little soft but at the same time I feel like I am seeing too much detail on the skin. It looks flaky. Softness should shelter me from such things! ;) |

4378web.jpgby mpetersComment: I'm not slobbering, either, even though it a skillful, thoughtful take on the silhouette. I actually like the wing through the head, but I don't like how the three children near the plane get lost. I also don't like the title. There's too much context here. The story is too obvious: a family going for a plane ride. Nothing mysterious is going on, nothing for me to guess or wonder about.
But I must say it is visually delicious. The shapes of those running children and their corresponding shadow shapes are just fantastic. Just give me a little quirk and/or mystery and I'll be happy! ;) |

i saw a skull instead of my faceby sherComment: the beauty of a shot like this is in its flatness. the background shapes up top don't really look like they're in the background. They are just more shapes on the flat canvas. The unreal or at least unexpected positioning of the deer skull further serves to undermine the 3-dimensionality. The posts and barbed wire create very strong crossing lines, making for a good composition. And in a "flat" picture like this, composition is everything (it's always everything). Nice to see you on the RC thread. You were one of the very first "artists" I found at DPC. Message edited by author 2007-05-16 19:26:44. |

Going Homeby mia67Comment: I love love love this photo. She looks like she is carrying an immense burden, something so heavy that it has caused her to become almost purely a shadow. The child and his sled are one creature, a centaur, smugly looking back, vivid red, perhaps it is the mother's life that infuses this creature, makes it glow. The composition is great. Mother is a powerful vertical shape, child is a decisive triangle, and a strong diagonal in the middle of the picture skates over top the triangle and goes right through the vertical. The OOF shapes up-top are just enough to give a sense of context without distracting. It's important to know that this is a suburban setting. Did I mention I love this? |

Waiting for the Tideby TannyComment: my first reaction is, "whoa! turn it down a notch!" but as my eyes adjust it is a fun picture to look at. Nothing really holds my attention, though. My eye has no path or resting place. |

Lightning across the lakeby eacComment: I like the muted pastel colors. Even the lightning is pastel! The composition is okay, but not very interesting. I wish the lightning had worked harder for you and made some interesting shapes! :) |

Synchronicityby QikiComment: greetings from critique club
I love the goofy but intimate way he's looking at you! And I like the up-close composition. the background paddler is distracting, though. I would have probably given this a 5, but only because I think sports shots are boring... which is why I didn't vote.
amazing you don't have more noise at iso800. well done! and that Pentax must be a great camera. |
