A Friend on Shoreby grainman9Comment: Really classic-looking photo. Might consider reducing the noise in the sky. Great catch of wave crash and seagull. |

Battle Scarby TechoComment: Yes, what mpeters said.. thanks for the bugshooting suggestions. I am relieved to learn that someone else is feeling around for focus with macros. I think my problem with understanding your title during the challenge was that I didn't realize where his eye was or what it looked like unscarred. I'll have to bone up on my dragonfly anatomy ;-) Congratulations on your high score - a super-big deal in a challenge of this size and competitiveness. |

Moose Mountainby GunnsiComment: Gorgeous lighting on that mountain. The grass below sort of approaches pastel. This shot is so nice that you still got a 5+ despite the dark colors!! Given the colorblindness, you are very courageous for taking a stab at this challenge. Way to be in the game ;-) |

Grumpyby glad2badadComment: Your photo is fine. It's Grumpy's fault. His features don't stand out. Consequently I can't relate to him, can't get a real clear idea of his expression. There isn't much range in the tones, so the contrasts are subtle. As far as the dof goes, the shallowness didn't bother me that much. However, a sort of(?) similar shot used deep depth to offset the close-up of the face and it worked. Better luck next time.

Fun at the Fountainby Prof_FateComment: Like the subject and the comp. The extreme saturation of the water isn't enhancing it to my eye. In fact, because this has a timeless feel to it, maybe this would look really cool b/w, if you get around to experimenting. |

Cheryl's Smileby albc28Comment: Hi. I was one of your 5's. I think your tones and focus are good in this shot. However, the combination of the close-up and the tight crop really puts her face in my face, and it's not comfortable. Plus she's looking right at me. She's a lovely girl, but the processing is very realistic. Maybe a little too realistic? To me, the key to improving the impact of this picture would be to back off, let the viewer have a little perspective on the model. Then you can consider whether to soften it up a touch, or give it an interesting twist of some sort. Just my 2c. Have fun experimenting :) |
