I know you are going to get a lot of flack for this one, but keep trying. You are on the right track. First and foremost you needed a tripod for this pic. But say you are out and about and see the perfect pic that requires a longer exposure and do not have a tripod...you can set the camera ond ANY steady surface...car, curb, newspaper box, you get the idea. Once stable use the timer on you camera to release the shutter because doing it manually will also cause blur with a longer exposure. Try at least these two steps and you will see a vast inprovement in the next night photo.
