**** Greeting from the Critique Club ****

Challenge
- Relevant to the Challenge? Yes
- Is subject unique (vs. unoriginal or rehashed)? Yes

Compostion
- Good or Bad? How can it be fixed? Strong Composition, however I would recommend cropping the minivan from the left and between the antenna and mirror on the car on the right. I like the fireman in the foreground with his partner in the background. Nice placement.
- Good use of Depth of Field? Yes. The lead fireman is in focus, but everything behind him is soft. Excellent.
- Good focus? Yes

Lighting
- Good use of light? Two issues. The reflected light for the fire engine headlights. The lead fireman is too dark to the front side. Use some fill flash our bring it up in post-processing. I like the reflections and shadows on the wet street.

Aesthetics/Artistic Appeal:
- What is my reaction or feelings? Like someone commented below. I feel like I am there. It's a good shot.

I don't know if u have camera shake or focus issues. Maybe you didn't sharpen afer resize?

I like this pictures message. One suggestion might be to blur the background some (not so much that you can't tell there is a fire truck though) and take a tighter crop. This could help to make the main fireman really standout.

I would have liked to have seen better focus on the men.

This would have been a beautiful shot. The composition is very nice, but it is a bit underexposed and the focus is not quite there.

It's a very good idea, but simply a mediocre photograph.

Just a little out of focus but good otherwise.

Interesting moment to capture but photo seems somewhat unfocused
01/06/2006 05:49:49 PM
kind of shaky snapshot with front subject too dark

Action shot, well captured. A vital part of every city.

I like the reflection of the firetruck lights everywhere and you show the small space these guys have to work in. Well done.

Great street candid!

The back-lighting is interesting, but it leaves the guy's face in the dark. Also the DOF is a bit awkward, neither deep enough to contain both guys nor shallow enough to isolate any particular depth layer. (And just to be nit-picky, there's nothing uniquely American about firemen being heroic.)

An on the fly PJ style shot. Looks like the autofocus may or may not have locked correctly. But, great sense of urgency in this image. Nice capture.

Nice capture, if a bit grainy and lackling in focus. Could be a bit more saturated in the reds and yellows, as well.

agreed, great picture

This would have been even better if you had moved in close on the fireman in front, with the firetruck lights in back slightly blurred.

I like the motion/action you caught as the firemen walk & especially the one getting his arm into his sleeve. I would have panned/cropped a bit to the left. I like how the photo is filled/crowded with cars & buildings. Good job, IMO, on catching a city feel.
