Comment:
The caputure of the steam in this shot is rather interesting, but is it the steam from the bread ... it looks as if it is comming from well behind where the bread is. But I like it anyway.

I saw this and believe it or not my mouth still watered. I love what you have done in taking a really neat idea with food and making it work.

You have an intesting DOF here, I also think that having the cake on thirds has worked well for you.

Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club.

The critique I am doing is for "Sisters?"

First Impression - the most important one:
How cool, your mum is intested enough to be in your picture, and you made both her and yourself look good!

Composition:
I like the composition you used there. There are quite a few comments that you received in voting, really it is up to you, but I think what you did was great.

Subject:
Mum and daughter ... this totally meets the subject.

Technical (Colour and light):
Couldn't get much better really.

To grow its vote?:
Add a baby or young .. I mean most of the top 20 have them - no not needed ... you got there without it.

Summary:
You have done some awesome work .. your portfolio really shows that, and you are going to continue to improve.

If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via the PM system.

Cheers

Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club.

The critique I am doing is for "me as a mother" picture.

First Impression - the most important one:
my god, why did I draw this one, its great, its perfect .. she actually tells me the whole story of the picture!

Composition:
I like the composition of this shot. Black and white really did work, and I like the leading lines that go from your babies face to yours. You can tell that is one lucky wee man, cos his mum loves him.

Subject:
You can't really get a better choice of subject matter, as shown by eight of the top ten pictures.

Technical (Colour and light):
The use of contrast and lighting here is great. I also like the way the light plays on your hair.

To grow its vote?:
Do you need to grow the vote. Not this time really. This was a good scoring challenge, and you did score well.

Summary:
You have done some awesome work .. your portfolio really shows that.

If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via the PM system.

Cheers

Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club.

The critique I am doing is for "Dec 26 Loss remembered".

First Impression - the most important one:
Wow ... this is so powerful, it leaves me breathless.

Composition:
I would normally say that the border detracts from the image, but it doesn't in this case. It actually adds to the somberness of the occassion.

Subject:
Lovely choice of subject matter, it meets the challenge well. This is a difficult piece of subject matter, which I think voters will sympathise with.

Technical (Colour and light):
The use of contrast and lighting here is great. She does seem so very sad and it is etched on her face. It shows how much was lived through

To grow its vote?:
This was a left field entry and being from there is hard to say do this and increase to score. I thinl this kind of shot is fantastic and will always deserve more than it gets.

Summary:
You have done some awesome work .. your portfolio shows that. Keep it up.

If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via the PM system.

Hi, my name is Kari and from the critique club.

Interesting to do a critique on your image but it is difficult if you don't give us any information in your photographers comments. When we do a critique, we go past just the photographic result, that's what voters comments do. The critique looks at what you were trying to achieve, how you wanted it to look and what issues you had in getting the image captured and ready for voting.

First Impression - the most important one:
I have so been there. But I also had to look twice to get a full understanding - this is a good thing.

Composition:
Really good composition, the added border works as not being overpowering. The sepia tones work. This is such a candid shot. Good cropping, although I did find it a little centred for my own taste.

Subject:
Lovely choice of subject matter, which meets the challenge well.

Technical (Colour and light):
Thie lighting used is good. There is no real colour to comment on here :)

To grow its vote?:
Take note of what the other commentors are saying, I think you kept this challenge quite real to people and that was the attraction here. But being quite a simple picture you may have been underrated.

Summary:
Well done, keep up the great work.

If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via the PM system.

Cheers

The critique looks at what you were trying to achieve, how you wanted it to look and what issues you had in getting the image captured and ready for voting.

First Impression - the most important one:
I would love to know this lady, her hands have a pretty much been there done that look, and that has worked well for this picture.

Composition:
Nice composition. This works pretty well, and from the voters comments they have generally really liked this.

Subject:
Lovely choice of subject matter, which defiantely meets the challenge - in a cool out of the box manner.

Technical (Colour and light):
Thie lighting used is good. I am not totally convinced with the copping as the other blurred hand isn't adding much to the picture.

To grow its vote?:
I thin kthat you are well on your way as shown in the rest of your portfolio.

Summary:
Well done, keep up the great work and thinking out of that box.

If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via the PM system.
