Too bad the moon (or star?) wasn't higher up. Other than that this is perfect.

I like the color in this but the highlights are just a bit too much.

Nice tonal range and the b/w treatment was a good choice. The crop is good but maybe get more of the boats at the bottom (if possible).

Greetings from the Critique Club...

Positives:
Strong image. The composition, color and lighting are all good.

Suggested Improvements:
Make things a bit more clear in terms of the story you're trying to convey. The wording on the title has me confused to be honest. Did he lose a son/daughter that was his "life"?

Also, as a news worthy image having more of the guys face (assuming the story is about him) would have been better. As is this makes for a good emotive image but one that is too abstract for a particular story since we can't ID the person. That's probably the reason why this scored as low as it did because everything else suggests a much higher score.

Summary:
Strong image but one that may have suffered for being too vague.

Positives:
Good capture of a bird inflight. For the most part the imagine is sharp especially in face of the bird which is vital in shots like this.

Suggested Improvements:
Expand the crop a bit so that there is more negative space. A good example is your photo called "Eyes like a hawk", which btw is a great image. That one has more head room in the direction in which the hawk is flying towards. That just gives the image an extra sense of freedom, which goes well with the subject.

You obviously are good at capturing birds in flight so there really isn't anything else I can suggestion. In terms of processing I don't really see anything that could be improved.

Summary:
Nice image just work on framing it better.

Very nice entry. The simplicity of this is really appealing. The composition works flawlessly. Congrats on a really great image and top ten score!

The only suggestion I have is maybe adjust the levels slightly since it's a bit on the dark side and also a slight color balance on the sky to bring that out more. Anyway, just some suggestions as this obviously this did quite well as is.

Greetings from the Critique Club...

Positives:

Good choice in going with a b/w version especially for this challenge. The image is also sharp and overall has good detail. Speaking of details, I like how you captured the name on the side of the helicopter. That right there helps tell the story without the need for the title, which is great. I also like the subject you chose, which is very fitting for the challenge in general.

Suggested Improvements:

I like the idea that you wanted to capture the pilot closeup, however his expression comes off as uninteresting and he's hard to see between that strong glass reflection and his gear. What I'd recommend is trying to capture him when he's more animated or perhaps getting into the helicopter or engaged with others with the helicopter as the backdrop. Doing that may introduce more emotion/impact that is otherwise lacking with his expression and how he is situated in this photo.

From a technical aspect, I might do a levels adjustment on this one because the blacks don't look black enough.

Summary:

Strong entry for the challenge but just lacked that something extra to do better. For this subject, motion (from the subject or helicopter) would have produce a lot of impact.

Edited for spelling.

Panos are really at a disadvantage in these challenges since they end up being so small. Nothing against the image itself but if you want to do better I'd suggest going with a more traditional landscape or portrait crop.
