Down in the 5.5 range we can find pictures with promise but failed for specific reasons. Blue herons are great subjects and you did great being able to get one in flight, but your shutter speed was too slow and your crop is too tight. It might be nice to provide a little negative space to the left for the bird to fly into. It could also probably use a contrast bump. I just noticed this shot is from 2006 so it's quite possible you have moved way beyond this shot. :)

Comment:
Greetings from the Critique Club...

Positives:
Good capture of a bird inflight. For the most part the imagine is sharp especially in face of the bird which is vital in shots like this.

Suggested Improvements:
Expand the crop a bit so that there is more negative space. A good example is your photo called "Eyes like a hawk", which btw is a great image. That one has more head room in the direction in which the hawk is flying towards. That just gives the image an extra sense of freedom, which goes well with the subject.

You obviously are good at capturing birds in flight so there really isn't anything else I can suggestion. In terms of processing I don't really see anything that could be improved.

Summary:
Nice image just work on framing it better.

Nice catch, these guys can be hard to get. Looks nicely focused, too. My only pick would be to allow him some room to fly into so that he's not flying right out of the shot.

Great capture. I might crop a bit off the top. This would help center the bird in the frame.

I know how hard these are to catch in flight. The reflection of the trees in the water is a little distracting but I know it is there and you can't do much about it. Good shot.

some sharpening and curve adjustment may well make this photo great.
The cropping seems a little too tight too. Cheers.

Good capture. Cropping feels a bit too tight.

The look of speed worked well you did a great job of following it I bet that was hard. Would like to know your shutter speed..

Wow!!!! What a spectacular capture! I am so impressed by how sharp this is considering the fast movement of that bird. It's as if you could reach out and touch him. Beautiful job!!

Lovely. The curve of his neck brings something to this shot.
