Ancient, derelict, forgottenby edmartinComment: Nice take on the challenge. I like old churches. Too bad about the sky. I would try and expose just for that and then recompose the shot once you've locked exposure. |

Dusky Pulsating Cityby DigiFotoBuddyComment: Greetings from CTP2
My first impression was, it's a nice aerial shot but it didn't have enough going for it to do better in this particular challenge. Compositionally, it works. I like the horizon and the main highways being off center. In terms of the technicals in general, not much to critique here. You captured the dusky feel nicely and there are no distractions or anything like that present.
The choice in subject is what I feel held you back. What this fictional movie needed in my opinion was more identifying marks of the city. Here we see a city sprawl that could be any city. Maybe a skyline shot of downtown would have worked better giving a face to the city and the movie.
In terms of improvements, I just think having a stronger more identifible subject would have really helped. As is this is a very nice aerial that probably would have done better in the Night challenge.

Dangerously pretty criminalsby LalliSigComment: Congrats on a top ten finish. However, I'm wondering how you are going to ever catch kiwiness if you keep producing these sub-7 entries? :P Message edited by author 2006-11-08 05:04:47. |

Daisy Parker's Chroniclesby kiwinessComment: I think I've seen this movie too many times with the gf. :P
Seriously, this should be at LEAST one place higher if not more. |

"Determined Penguin Caper"by RebeccaComment: Greetings from CTP2
First Impression:
Very cute. I thought this hit the challenge to a tee.
Composition:
Works perfectly for this challenge and for the image in general. I probably would have used the vignetting only at the bottom so the top part is more clear and vibrant.
Subject:
The subject stands out in the composition but as mentioned above could have popped more without the darken corners.
Technical (Colour and light):
The lighting is good and the color is very colorful. The focusing works however, that might have been an issue with voters who crave super sharp images. However, as an image for a movie poster it worked, IMO.
Improvement:
Really, nothing beyond just trying to cater more to what DPC voters want. In other words, sharper is better, bolder colors is better and the more alive the subject is (i.e. inanimate vs living breathing) the better.
Summary:
Good image for the challenge. I scored this a 6 which would have placed this around 60ish overall in my overall placing. Good job and better luck next time! |

Direct Pursuit a Cycling storyby fotodudeComment: This looks more like a movie poster image than many of the ones in the top ten. Hopefully it was just your title (used too many words) that brought this down and not the image itself. |

Greetings from the Critique Club...
Nice image for the Rhythm Challenge. Compositionally this works. What I might do next time is crop a bit tigher so you don't have that white space in the corner. In regards to the DOF, it looks good, however it appears you sharpened that area a bit too much especially the top of the key so I'd try and avoid that in the future.
Other than that there isn't much else I'd change. Maybe make the white keys whiter so they provide more contrast with the black keys. Message edited by author 2006-05-14 03:54:53. |
