You know, I'm having a bit of trouble deciding why this was a 5.1. I think it's a decent shot. I gave it a 6. Perhaps two things jump out at me.

1) DPC does love a white background, but this is, if possible, too white. It almost overwhelms you. I don't think gray would have been better, but instead of having a 0.0.0 white, maybe a 15,15,15 white or something would have been better. I'm not sure.

2) The pose is a bit static. I think it's a neat idea pulled off well. Sure, it's been done before, but not enough that it has become cliche. I'm not a portrait artist, so I don't have a lot to help you with the pose, but I wonder if that was part of the problem.

3) I'm really puzzled by the 60 scores of 4. I really don't know. Sometimes you win, I guess and sometimes you lose. Keep it up though.

I like the nice tight crop. It doesn't look like too many people gave you the "it's outside and not in a studio so it does not qualify".

I gave this a 6. My one issue when I originally saw it is that it does not look like she is looking at the flower. Even if she did it would be a problem because then she'd be quite cross-eyed. But with her not looking at them, I wondered why they were there.

The picture needs a boost on the levels. I pulled it into photoshop and a boost of 0/1.03/214 did a good job. It blows out the flower more, but since this is advanced, you can mask the flower off so it isn't affected. The increase gives her face more life.

Contrast is a generally good thing, but in portraits I find contrast quickly makes the person look harsh. You have a good level here. Perhaps some mild unsharp mask to make it a little sharper. We are quite used to very sharp images on DPC and that may have helped a bit too. I tried 100%/0.3/1 and it looked a bit better.

Well, let's see Leroy. I think I wondered if this was yours for some reason.

Here are my issues:
1) The highlight on the face is quite a bit. You might get away with it, except it blends quite well with the highlight on the muslin in the back.
2) The red overall in the background is a bit too much. It looks like PP (which it may or may not be). I think perhaps you were going for the complement between the green shirt and the red which is good, but the red comes out more as a really blasted pink.
3) The pose? The dude looks a bit like he needs to be wearing an S&M outfit. I looked to the title to help me with the pose, but when I didn't see help, I just scratched my head. I'm glad it's not typical, but I didn't quite get it.

Dan, this is an AWESOME portrait. You captured him very well and I think placing this high without using a female model is most impressive. Keep up the great work. Sorry it didn't ribbon there, but Top 5 is still great.
