Downtownby JeniYComment: Technicals: Excellent focus and DOF. The image is crisp and sharp. The sky has a tiny gradient which is good. Blown sky in B&W isn't the end of the world anyway. The B&W conversion is well done.
The feel: I think I'm going to say this a lot on my Street Photog comments. Street photography should do one of a few things: 1) capture the human condition either through an interesting scene or through the facial expressions captured in an everyday occurance. 2) capture nostalgia 3) capture an interesting geometric pattern (meaning the photo has abstract qualitites) which rises above the photo as a whole. Your shot, without people, cannot do the first. The snow and the light do give some nostalgic feelings and you do have the leading lines you mentioned (although they don't technically "lead" to anything).
The game: I gave this a 6 because you did capture some of 2 and 3. (although when voting I didn't go down my checklist which I only came up with for the purposes of these comments) I think people were looking for people, that's probably a large part of the 45 4s you got. |

Minkby pamelasueComment: The technicals: The focus is there, but the image is quite soft for two reasons. 1) You are using the 50mm 1.8 at 1.8 (that leads to some softening) and the 1/50th shutter speed probably led to a little motion blur. It's not the end of the world, but it does detract some from the image.
The feel: I do like the vertical composition and the interesting lights in the top half. The woman, our subject, is lost however a bit against the dark car. We do not see her face which is a negative as well. Street photography should be capturing the human condition. This means, to me, either an interesting happening, or a mundane scene which also shows something in the face of the people captured. This shot lacks that aspect which is probably crucial. (BTW, I gave it a 5, mainly for the interesting lights)
The game: See the feel. I think that's what people were looking for. A third option was to capture a nostalgia or an interesting geometric pattern. MAK's bike scene which ribboned would be the first of those two. |

True love - matching silly outfitsby MelethiaComment: The Technicals: Focus, DOF and contrast are all nicely done. The obvious downside is the overexposure of the dog and the white portion of the man's coat and hat. It may be possible to handle some of this with Shadow/Highlights in Photoshop, otherwise you would have had to compensate when you shot it.
The Feel: Makes me smile. I do like the square crop which emphasizes the symmetry between their outfits. The DOF does isolate them a bit, which is good. If possible I may have given just a slightly more generous crop on both sides, but maybe you were forced to do this because of objects or people just out of the frame.
The game: Ya, pretty subtle for DPC. Screw them. You probably would have gained a few tenths if you could have controlled that highlight. |

Crossingby DPC-SystemComment: One would immediately ask why the tree in the middle of the composition? Since Henri's dead, I guess we'll never know. I did give it a 7 before I realized what I was looking at. ;) |

City of Angelsby glodaComment: I'm sure in the DPC world you are getting absolutely hammered on this shot. I like it though. Don't ask me why. I just like the feel. 7 |
