Mystical Mangrovesby yakatmeComment: Originally posted by pawdrix: I like this.I'm not a fan of HDR but here you've done a really nice job. The effect might be a hair strong but but the colors are wonderful and seem true. Really nice. |
This wasn't HDR, but rather a result of the conditions that I was shooting under: To avoid the blown out reflections everywhere like what you can see on the aerial root on the left I found that I have to shoot on a complete overcast and dark day. Then in post processing I use levels to brighten things up a little. I don't like that "HDR look" either and normally in post processing (of any kind) I try to limit my manipulation to just short of turning my images artificial while maximizing what I can.
(One of the other shots in that thread was the HDR shot)

I remember my mother when....by Rino63Comment: Nice shot Gennaro. I like the duotone effect and the black background. I can easily see this being a first memory. Congratulations on your top ten finish. |

glowby k4ffyComment: I agree with the previous two comments. The main subject that I want to land upon is the distant city with the red glow, but the foreground buildings keep bringing my eyes back to them and that's not the 'pretty' part of the image. The tallest building interrupts the nicest part of the image which extends to the left of that building. So, to frame the center part of the shot with the tall building (or just part of it) framing the left side would improve this shot a lot. Maybe if you could just hop over to the next roof in the center or to the one on the right (it's closer) and compose the shot from there ;)
BTW, good idea for a nighttime shot. I think you have a great area to work with. edit spellingMessage edited by author 2008-02-08 11:21:08. |

Screaming Eagleby AlainComment: Nice work getting a clean background. Great detail throughout most of the white which is very difficult to accomplish. The detail also in the eye that is most visible to us. I bet this looks even more fantastic in print. |

Wood Duckby vencapComment: Wow! You really blew away your previous PB. This is one of the shots that I went looking for after the challenge to see how well it did. The focus on those colors is perfect. Great job. |

Camouflagedby carofoComment: Unbelievable. I am now looking through the entries trying to find the final placement for some of the shots that I was concerned were going to beat mine. This was one of those shots. I thought you might take the blue ribbon with this one and I am very surprised that it didn't finish higher. I really, really like this shot. Very nice and unique entry. |

Amber Gazeby Nikolai1024Comment: This was your Nikolai?!? I'm cruising through the entries to find out where some of the competition finished. This was one of the shots that really had me concerned. I believed that it was going to edge my entry out and I am very surprised that it didn't finish in the top 5. Fantastic shot! |
