Nice combination of color and black and white. I like the soft treatment as well. Makes your main subject look almost like a guardian angel or something. Puts him out of phase with the rest of the image, almost indicating he is there but not seen, hence the guardian angel analogy.

The sky is definitely very nice. Did you try a bit of fill in flash on the tree just to bring it out a bit better?

We also have a few area in my state that are like this. One, Avon Mountain, had a huge accident there last year and around 4 people were killed. They have yet to do anything to change the area.
As to your shot, It is a hard one to compose because you tried with the leading line of the road, plus you wanted to have the beauty of the sky behind it. My eye seems most drawn to the light color of the dirt edge along the left. The left side is definitely the better looking one. Maybe a bit of a different angle might bring out the heart of this picture.

I like the reflections as well. I think you could expound upon that one aspect a bit more tightly by getting rid of some of the foreground, which does nothing to enhance the shot.
