I like the DOF used here, and the simplicity of a shot which conveys significantly more complex emotions. Lighting is excellent, but I'm betting you knew that already.

For a first attempt (and a lot of sugar cubes) I'd say you did pretty darn well! I'm betting that you'd have scored about a half point higher if you'd cropped a lot closer - get more detail of the splash and the sugar cube. (Just read through the comments and I see this has already been suggested... probably should read first, huh?)

LOL! Love the interpretation! Reds are very strong, good capture of the candle flames (which is hard to do!) and the devil is just plain cheeky. My only nit would be that it takes a second to see the hand. Just a touch more light coming from over the right shoulder would have provided some illumination on the hand and the page. Still, quite the delightful response to the challenge!

I think the softness here is very appealiing, and your model looks to be a very engaging, personable, and lovely young lady. You've captured her personality well. I like the angle of the shot, and the fact you didn't feel the need to make sure all of her hair/head was in the frame.
