SILENCE Of The SNOWby smfsnowindComment: Well, snow does muffle sound, so I guess your title could fit that way. For me though, most of the peaceful landscape entries simply offer ideal places in which to escape the noisiness of modern living and spend some quiet time. The rich blue of the distant water really lifts this. |

.by rhipsterComment: I didn't think much of this on first viewing but I certainly found myself coming back to it more than once during voting. (I perform a rough vote first and then run through the images a number of times to fine tune individual scores). This image certainly makes me wonder about the location, about the use of the space, about the empty chairs... I want to know whether the space is used regularly and is just experiencing a short lull or whether it's been standing empty for some time. I like the way the line of chairs leads me back into the darkness. |

Silent Reflectionby GoldBerryComment: I like the portrait - the way he's stopped to contemplate whatever is on his mind - and the texture of the wood is wonderful. Overall composition isn't that strong for me - his position horizontally within the frame seems unbalanced and the inclusion of the sky adds nothing for me. |

Stillness in Whiteby boyte1Comment: A looser interpretation of silence than many entries but nonetheless interesting. I like the white flowers against a white background. |

American history Xby InfinityComment: Great use of repetition to drive home the huge losses suffered. An absence that must surely feel like a huge, gaping and silent hole. Curious about the choice to photograph this at night, though it certainly provides an interesting change from blue and green. The line of crosses leading into the darkness is intriguing, visually. |

Shhh!by KoolDudeComment: Great lighting and the pose certainly communicates the theme. But I am not connecting with your little bear - it feels a little too clinical and therefore just doesn't hit me on an emotional level. It is beautifully taken though, nice lighting, framing etc. |

unpluggedby miss parkerComment: I do like the strong vertical between black and white and the dynamic shapes of the circular speaker cones. The more free-form curves of the snaking cord contrasts quite well with the more precise lines of the speaker. Doesn't have an emotional punch for me - something that makes me come back to view it again and again, but it does appeal on a purely visual level. |

Silence at the Red Rocks Amphitheatreby jamison55Comment: Whilst this is an interesting choice of subject matter and you've certainly found an unusual viewpoint, as well as ensured that the sunlight is in the right place to help bring out the right colours and details, I find the subject matter essentially doesn't engage me in a way that makes me want to return and look at the image again and again. |

Silent Sentries After the Wildfiresby boomerComment: I like the stark shapes of the trees, particularly the bare trunks that are missing branches, but I think that composition is weak. There isn't really an effective focal point and the image doesn't feel that balanced. The scrub in the foreground also hold much less interest for me than those majestic trees behind it. |
