The "War to End All Wars" by YoungerComment: Hey, good for you! First ribbon, personal best by a huge amount! We had a "temporary memorial" like this at Wellfleet on Cape Cod about a month ago, it was very moving. |

Beaconby jdannelsComment: This image is actually a prime candidate for tone mapping and/or HDR. I'd love to have a go at it from the original. There seems to be a misconception among a lot of people that HDR means "exaggerated" and it simply doesn't have to be that way. Here's a version I worked on by creating varying 16-bit tiffs from your entry, creating a quasi HDR image from that, and tone mapping the result. It has its limits because of the small original size and the fact that it is created from an already-processed image, but I think you can agree it's pretty faithful to your original, and perhaps you will agree it shows more potential for bringing out texture in the sky. What do you think?

Lotsa Stuffby Tom_RobbrechtComment: Lovely example of an image without a subject, filled with detail, giving the eyes a journey. I'm very partial to images like this. Unfortunately, the 640-pixel limitation doesn't allow them to shine. Also an excellent example of exaggerated tone mapping/hdr used to good effect. Good luck to you with this one. |

Force Fieldby vtruanComment: Van, I've seen this before but never really stopped to study it. It popped up for me as I was seeking a "force" image for the "photo name game", and I wanted to let you know how much I like it as I "study" it. I'm not quite sure why, but it doesn't matter. It's a beautifully-realized shot, and I'm popping it into my favorites. Give everyone in the image a bear hug for me, willya?
ETA: Hah! It already WAS in my favorites; I have good taste :-) Message edited by author 2006-11-30 23:46:55. |

Now you're flying, baby!by ursulaComment: Dang, she's cute! I don't recall seeing this before. It's quite a satisfying image. I especially like the grace note of the BG brightness behind the left rim of the hat :-)
Actually, I must have seen it before as I scored it a 7, but it didn't stick in my memory, shame on me. |

Test of Timeby perotyComment: NICE shot, Carl. Love the blemished fender. Sweet tonalities you have here, spot-on framing-up of the shot. It's not an image that leaps up and demands attention, but it has a certain purity that appeals to me greatly. |
