This is pretty cool, in the main, but I feel like there's a big empty area that isn't working for me. I'd try cropping off about 20% of the image on the left, getting the hopper's eyes more off-center, and perhaps bringing more detail into the darker portions of the middle tones, thought hat bit might work against the stark quality you are after. My concern is that the ants are a little murky here, they aren't really registering without close examination...
