This is the "realest" of all the pain I have seen here. It has "flaws" as an image, but I don't care. 10.

Another good outside-the-box image, a strong and gritty entry.

Hideous inline, WHY did you do that? Wonderful, vibrant image that stands out from the mass of this challenge.

Speaking of this as a photograph (as opposed to a challenge entry) one immediately notices 3 things; it's out of focus or softened too much, the color cast is way warm, and the background dominates the image. All of these are unnatural looking components of the image, and taken together make it not work very well.

The choice of BG color is also questionable, as it too-closely matches up with the colors on the old camera's leather casing.

Speaking of this as a challenge entry, I'd comment that all of the above caused the image to be downgraded in score, and it wasn't helped by the fact that it was only one of many "old v new" camera shots.

Assuming you had wanted to continue with this theme, and interesting approach to take might have been to split the background diagonally frum upper left to lower right and have an "old" and a "new" background also, perhaps one shiny and the other like the one you chose, but a different color.

Overall, it seems a failed image, basically, soft and static with most of the attention grabbed by the overly complex BG.

This is an exceptionally nice image, immaculately processed and rendered. There's very little I can add to the comments already received. I have two nits, both minor:

1. The border may be overpowering it a little, but I can see why youw anted "wide black". I'd like to see it with 10-15% less border. I like the way your border is a tad wider on the bottom, nice touch.

2. The image might be stronger, especially in terms of the challenge, had you very carefully selected the windmills and goosed their brightness up a little.

I'd further comment that the overlap of tree and building on the right, and the way the mass of tree is completely filling the sky upper leftish, may not be optimum here. But I cans ee you may have had no choice in the matter. I'd be curious to see a sligtly wider version of the image, to see what's over there and how it might be integrated. The trunk of the tree, perhaps?

Overall, a simply excellent picture.

*** CRITIQUE CLUB COMMENTS ***

Personally, I voted this a 7. I believe it was underrated by the voters. It was one of the netries that tried to literally "photograph light" and I appreciated the effort that went into it.

Let's talk about why I didn't gibe it a 10; that might be helpful.

1. On any image of this nature, sharpness is your friend. There's an overall sense of fuzziness to the image that is not doing it any favors. Now, I realize that it may very well be that within the limitations of your setup no greater sharpness was attainable; I don't honsetly know. But even if that is the case, to take the concept to the next level would involve finding a way to do the same thing more sharply. For example, perhaps the glass is an ordinary kitchen glass, and perhaps a crystal glass would have rendered the rim more sharply. Crystal is much more optically pure than ordinary domestic glass.

2. The composition itself is a little cut-and-dried. I'm not sure how you'd have framed this more dramatically, but the overall effect is surprisingly static considering how powerful the diagonal is.

3. The background is a little muddy, and this isn't helping either. could you have found a way to have the background far enough behind the glass that spillover from the laser wasn't affecting it at all?

These are my basic thoughts on this entry. It's a decent photo that has untapped potential in it. I'd like to see you work on this concept and produce a stronger variation of it, just to prove to yourself you can.

I'm totally in love with this one. It's probably doomed because of the blur, but I certainly don't care. There's a gritty/surreal, mad sense of joie de vicre here that captivates me. Good luck with it.
