Pater Nosterby jmsetzlerComment: I am quite taken by the graininess of this understated image; it seems just right to me. The composition, too, is clearly very precisely thought out. The framing, also, is exceptionally nice. it all works very well together. I particularly liek how the tight cropping to the top of the stone emphasizes how the cross has been broken off from there. |

Missingby IceRockComment: mondo weirdo... bump for originality and strangeness. |

Posterityby MatthewComment: This is incredibly striking. One begins quite naturally at the head of the effigy, and the eye travels down and down and down and down and then, POW, out of nowhere, that bizarre dog... I'm amazed you didn't title this in a way to play off of that dog. The title nowhere near does it justice, but that shouldn'tt affect the scoring I don't think. It's a prettynice conversion as well, the stone feels "real". My only beef is that it's cropped awfully tight at top and top left. Strong score from me. |

modern mausoleumby BeetleComment: Technically this image is nothing to write home aboyut. It seems oversharpened and underlit to me. BUT it's an absolutely unique image in this challenge, and I commend you for finding it and entering it. A bump for that. |

Keeper of Their Storiesby JesuispeureComment: I quite like this. It's quiet and simple, it stands out as being "respectful" in a challenge noteworthy for its images of neglect. I'd like it better if you'd moved tight just a little bit so the angel and the tree did not end on the exact same vertical line. |

ressurectionby messerschmittComment: This is in many ways a downright "ugly" image. It's also a mysterious one, in that I can't pinpoint just what those specks on the ground ARE. For all of that I find the whole thing suprisingly compelling, although I suspect it will not do well with most voters. A strong score from me. |

A View to Die For ! by wilksComment: This has many strengths: the composition is very good (except it's maybe a little tite on the round-topped stone) and there's an appealing oevrall smoothness of tone. Two things (or maybe 3) bother me though: the highlights on the cross-topped monument seem overly bright, way out of proportion to the softness of the rest of the image. You have muted the sky significantly, so it is very obvious that these highlights "borrow" from a "different" sky. Another problem is the distinct haloing of the sky/hill border, which is a very distracting imperfection to me. Finally, I'm not convinced that the distinctly yellow cast you've thrown into the sky is working to your advantage.
So my judgment is that you SHOT a heck of an image but went a little off-track in your post-processing. Still a strong score but not top-tier for me. |

dead for homelandby rhipsterComment: This is a very strange scene. I'm not sure it's as well-captured as it might be, the cropping in thr lower right and, to a lesser extend, lower left edge, seem arbitrary to me. Even so, it's an arrestring image, not "just another tombstone". |

Old & Weatheredby HeavyComment: The two main elements here, the cross and the steeple/chapel, seem too closely juxtaposed to me. Moving sdlightly to the right might open this up a little more comfortably. This would laso help, perhaps, witht he unfortunate overlap of the foreground pedestal witht he background, jalf-round tombstone. There is considerable figure/ground merging where the cross tends to lose its right arm in the tree, the values are so similar. The sky seems unnaturally over-smoothed as well. Finally, I am a little bemused by the unfortunate phallic appearnace of that unusual steeple, but it is what it is I guess... For all of that this is a strong image and should do well. |
