underwater pencil sunburstby notashamdComment: I'm not one for abstract-ish photos, but this was done very nicely. with the yellow, in addition to the shiny "ferrules" makes it look kind of like an actual sunburst. The lighting is good. Bright enough to see what you are looking at, but dark enough to not overwhelm the photo with reflection and glare. Definately creative. Good luck in the challenge. |

Homegrown Pencilsby xertionComment: Monday night, at midnight, this was the first photo that popped up in my list. I laughed my butt off. Thanks for that. This is a great photo. The angle and focus are great and the lighting is simply perfect. I don't see a shadow in the picture at all. I have to wonder though if you got the seeds from the photographer of "how does your garden grow". This challenge has been a riot. Thanks again for adding to the humor and doing such a nice job of it. Good luck in the challenge. |

Chip Off The Old Blockby focusComment: Neat idea. This looks like a shutter speed trick. But I'm not hugely educated on that, I'm guessing only by other photos I've seen similar. The concept behind this is great with the "chip off the ol block" theme. Very clever. I also like how you got the pencils lined up both on the block and the floor. The block seems unnaturally orange, which makes it look like the color has been messed with, but then again, maybe the block really is that color. Who am I to judge when I've never see that block before. Great job with this. Good luck in the challenge. |

Love noteby rapsiii3Comment: Very cute. Definately original. The lighting and angle are good. Focus is great and your photo contains a high level of creativity. I like how it fills the frame, but I might have backed it up just a tad to have not cut off his tail. good job and good luck in the challenge. |

Pencil artby prodigal havocComment: I wonder how many people are judging the drawings rather than the photos. This was taken at a very nice angle, but really looks like not much more than a photo of a drawing. Good drawings though, but I don't think we are suposed to judge the drawings. The lighting was good, but I'm wondering why the fingers turned out red. It's a pretty good photo, don't get me wrong, just lacks the "wow" factor for me. Remember though, that's just an opinion, and you can tell me to sick it up my wazoo if you want. :) Good luck in the challenge. |

Family Treeby bobgaitherComment: The focus on that pine cone is really great. You did a very nice job staggering color of the pencils. Lighting is very good. no distracting shadows or bright spots. the only thing that might be kind of distracting is there is a small black dot in the upper left corner. Otherwise, very creative. Good luck in the challenge. |

Sushi Sticksby MaYzComment: Pretty cool. I love the colors of the food in the background and it looks good that it's got a soft focus. The pencils are very clear and the lighting is great. No distracting shadows or bright spots. I would like to have seen this at different angles. Wasn't sure if liked the angle at first, but it's growing on me. Great job with this photo and good luck with the challenge. |

Pencil-vaniaby alanfreedComment: This cracked me up beyond belief. I wasn't sure exactly what "pencil-vania" looked like, so I looked it up and you are right on!! Couldn't have followed the states outline better. Never having been to Penn. I can only assume that the branches and leaves around the pencil state are something relating to Penn. Great imagination! definately creative and guess what? I see pencils!! Good luck in the challenge. |

Fractionby TrexXComment: I was looking this up in the dictionary to relate the title to the photo and I think the word you were thinking of is Refraction. That is the bending of something by dissimilar mediums. Or, by the pencil being broken, I was thinking you might have meant "fracture" which means the breaking of something. I noticed that these appeared to be non usa pencils, so in that case, you did a fine job of getting close either way. Setting that aside as it has nothing to do with my rating of the photo, the lighting is great. I love how the water ripples and the light goes through the water. I love the angles as well. You did a great job with this photo. Good luck in the challenge. |
