I had something like this (in a landscape portrayal) on my wall for a long time. It too had an orange butterfly with a purple/green background. I don't know what it is, but these bright colors and especially the orange vs green/purple works refreshing, as if spring is just around the corner (while they just announce a -10 C temperature for the next week).
The shallow dof always works great with these kinds of shots, but with butterflies I think it is important to keep the petals extending from the head in focus. You did a good job with this one. 8

Great catch, excellent detail. There is still some spinning in the wheels left to show that it is not a trick setup (I know it isn't, seen plenty of this stuff myself). I like it, but am left with an empty feeling. The photo doesn't show the atmosphere, the setting, the crowd going wild, stuff like that. But maybe that is a bit too much to ask for. :) 7

Nice photo. The B&W toning is very good.
Unfortunately there is a lot of clutter in the centre. I mean, many high detailed objects like the rocks, bushes and trees. The unfortunate part is that the 640 wide limit of DPC doesn't do it justice. I expect it looks much better at 800 wide.
I like the soft mood of the mountain. The last 10 to 15% of the right side doesn'tt add much to the composition except to keep a balance between the reeds on the left and right. 7

Looks like a painting. :)
I like it how the lighter background (red was a good choice) at the bottom is in balance with the bright berries on the branch itself.

I am not entirely sure about the composition. The photo does not really tell "he's mine" itself. I also feel that there is not enough space at the right side of the arm, it looks a bit strange in the lower right corner this way.
Technically I think it is very good. Nice dof, good background (smooth, undetailed, darker and not drawing a lot of attention), good light (especially on her face and the hair), nice light in the eyers and good B&W toning.

Interesting how many of the lines in this photo lead to the person on the bench:
- line from the roof along the wall
- shadow/sun border on the floor
- the bench in the foreground
Shame the person is in such a deep shadow. He seems deep asleep as well. :)

A train it the distance might make it a bit stronger, but I like the setup of the composition, just not how the light falls.

Right on the edge, suggestive but not porn.
I like it how your model stands out from the dark and how she is hmmm err, 'tied'' to that background by the leather stuff she is wearing. The lighting on the body is good, but the face has just a tad too much, or it might be the effect of makeup or something. 7

Hi mon Cheri,

I had done my voting and I had no clue what photograph could possibly be yours. :)
So what to do? Pbase! :) I had given this an 8 before I checked and I am not going to change it. O :-)

Great photo, it has such strong composition and lighting. The guitar leads me trough the frame and the hands show me what's going on. The beard sheds some light on the character that is playing, it leaves something to the fantasy of the viewer. That way the viewer can decice for himself if this is a country, heavy-metal, bluess, jazz or pop player. Fits everyones views.
I like the darkness in the background and on the face of the guitar body, it helps to direct the eye to the more important parts: the hands and the long bit supporting the strings. Shame about the highlight blowout of the string tensioners, but you'd need another camera and a lot of underexposure with shadow correction to get any detail back. It distracts a little, but should be accepted as the limitation of photography.

I must say, it sure is one of the best I've seen from you in 2004 and I hope it does well. Let's rock in 2005!
See ya!

Great Photo, shame that it did so poor in the voting.
I don't think that there are many better ways to put the concept of an actual Phoenix (as a bird) into a photograph without excessive PS. Nice capture. When you shoot the NL, can you see this kind of patterns with your own eyes or does it only materialize after a long exposure?
I have never seen the NL you see. :(

Nice to see you entering photos again Nastya. When was the last time, months ago I believe? Should have guessed from the lighting it was you. :)
I don't know how, but I kept beeing drawn to her eyes. Didn't even see the wedding ring, like GI Joe noticed. Makes it extra good. :)
