Lovely photo. Very beautiful in fact. I assume you meant "... tell it ON ..." in your title. While I enjoy the photo I'm not sure this would make the cut (theme-wise) for the subject matter of the book. ???

Might have been better off coming in closer for some reflections rather than taking on the whole "pond". The sky and dead tree in the skyline take away from it substantially IMO. Sorry. Good luck.

Either a classy pose (with clothes), or subdued erotic (like the movie poster linked above).

Great idea. One finishing touch that would have put it over the top for me is some dirt on him (hands, arms, face). Looks too freshly scrubbed for the story theme. Still an 8 from me. Nicely done!
