i get the idea, but don't like the lighting, or the background. try to keep it uniform and tight, so as to remove distracting elements from the image (like the table the pillow is sitting on, as well as the wrinkles in the cloth).

interesting composition, but the lighting is a little strong (you might try shooting this at a different time of day). beyond that, though, i'm sure you're getting nailed for not meeting the challenge by all those who think of poverty as it relates to humans...you know, 'the state of having little or no money and few or no material possessions'
