wild shot, you got here. would love to see your exif. the thing i like about this image is that it highlights your love of photography. you see something that strikes you, and you actually stop to do something about it rather than let the moment go by. i'm also willing to bet you wish (like me) that more of the challenges met your natural abilities. all we can do is just keep on shooting!

i like the duotones, am leaning towards feeling this is a little over-processed. the coloring on the leaf almost looks like paint-by-numbers (but i don't know if that's due to the resolution of the upload or if it is intentional). while i like the composition, and the balance of light and dark, i still keep feeling that there's something missing in the texture of the leaf itself that might add more "omph" to the image.

this is a really cool idea; very creative. i would have voted this a 6 or 7, only holding it back because of the focus. i'm ok with a shallow dof, as long as the subject is razor sharp. here, i think the image would have been stronger if at least the leading rim was in focus (but, i'd have to see it both ways to offer a definitive "yep, that's the best way to do it.").

overall, the composition is excellent, as is the lighting, and colors.

as for meeting the challenge, i'd grin at that and accept your take on it without marking it down.

lastly, i can't wait to see what you turn in for the current macro-no bugs/flowers challenge; you really seem to have an eye for inanimate objects.

way cool, way cool, way cool! excellent capture, all the way around. it almost looks like your pulling together shots based on the best of the challenges . this is one of those where the only thing that would make it better would be to see it hanging on a wall!

well, i guess the title could use some work, too...lol

this is a cool shot. isn't it amazing, how many photo ops are all around us, begging for some simple attention? i like the treatment, but do think you've over-sharpened it (the haloing is a bit too noticeable).

christina, this is a stunning image! the colors are simply incredible. it's not often that nature presents us these opportunities; i'm glad you were there to take advantage of it.

from a composition standpoint, it doesn't appear that the near sky has too much to offer. with that in mind, in situations like this, you might want to angle for more foreground and less sky; this would also keep the horizon from splitting the image in the middle.

another thing to keep in mind to really nail these shots are your settings. i'm not sure of the range available on the camera you shot this with, but with your current camera, i can only begin to imagine how this would have turned out with aperature at F10 and a shutter near 100.

(just for grins, another shot that might have been fun would be to have moved to the left and turned the camera sideways for a portrait shot that really focused on the rope and the boat.)

thanks again for sharing a beautiful image. i'm glad it did so well for you.

this is beautiful. you have picked a great angle, and the framing is perfect. i would suggest, though, really tightening up the aperature as far as possible to get the maximum dof. think how awesome this image would be if every petal in the back was as razor sharp as the ones in the front.

this has the makings of an interesting image. i agree with brockangelo that it could benefit from a slightly different angle. as the background color is a little dull, the less of it, the better.

another thing to play with would be your dof; here, it's really short, but there is nothing in particular in the spotlight. i'm not quite sure what settings you have available on your camera, but i wouldn't recommend using macro mode unless you are shooting something specific (like a bug going across the table).

also, near the bottom right edge, there is a scratch or something. since this was a basic editing challenge, all you can do about that is crop it out (and be thankful that it was on the edge!). this is the type of thing that has bitten me, usually when i've waited too close to the deadline to really go over all the details. unfortunately, it's those little things that make the difference between receiving a 4 or 5, or having it receive 6s and 7s. (i gave this a 5.)

one thing that i have found helpful is to go back and revisit my challenge shots after the challenge, based on the comments i got. this is not always easy (or possible), but, it has helped me get a better handle on what i missed the first time.

i think you're on the right track, just keep shooting! good luck,

while this is a beautiful image and very dramatic, i don't like the horizon cutting through the middle. the lighthouse is going to be strong, regardless, but you need to choose between the earth and sky and take an angle that will use more of one than the other.
