| 12/18/2004 05:14:03 AM | Hardly any windby WobbleComment: maybe if you had shot this on a different day...
if the smoke is the subject, the foreground is too cluttered. if the plant is the subject, you have too much sky and smoke. the lighting and colors are interesting. the noise is a bit much (just a little neat image can go a long way).
good luck. |
| 12/18/2004 05:10:28 AM | Wind and Rainby NinjaMomComment: better luck next time. just don't give up. keep trying. and really, really, take advantage of this site by looking at the images that win, and then trying to recreate them yourself. it takes a lot of practice, but if you are interested in photography, it is worth it! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 12/18/2004 05:05:05 AM | Riverby BabakjoonComment: Composition: 4, this is a nice documentary shot, but not very compelling
Technical: 5, nothing really wrong, nor really outstanding
Appeal: 3, i might find this more interesting at a different time of day, with different lighting
Challenge: 1, i see nothing related to wind
Overall Calculated Average Score: 3 |
| 12/18/2004 04:43:33 AM | The Silenceby BudComment: this, too, is a nice image. perfect time of day, captured well. i like everything about the composition except the cropping. even with inanimate objects, cropping off just a tip of something is just as disconcerting as cropping off a hand; visually, you have to go all the way or none--partials tend to stand out, and consequently take away from the overall strength of the image. here, i'd hate losing the more interesting sky in the upper right, but i think overall, the image would be better with about 20% off the right. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 12/18/2004 04:36:47 AM | a roseby BudComment: i think this image would be a lot stronger if you cropped off about 35% of the left. the colors and textures are wonderful, but the bottom part of the flower isn't adding anything. the warmth of the lighting makes this a lovely image. good work! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 12/17/2004 09:00:41 PM | The lighthouse at Dyrhólaeyby GautiComment: i am just marvelling at the simple beauty of this image. it almost looks like an mc escher image. too bad you cropped off the back corner of the porch, though. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 12/16/2004 09:20:12 PM | I can see you baby!by StagoleeComment: i blew by this during voting, only scoring it a 6. i am sorry. it definitely deserved better from me, and it should have finished higher than it did. this is a remarkable image, one that i am glad to have in my faves! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 12/16/2004 06:25:48 PM | Circle Of Lifeby faidoiComment: Composition: 6, lines and curves are interesting. like the textures and the lighting
Technical: 5, wish the whole fish had been in focus. if you intended a shallow dof, fine, but i don't understand why you would do that.
Appeal: 5, i can take it or leave it. i can appreciate it for what it is and the way you've captured it, but, all the same, it's not anything i'd hang on my wall.
Challenge: 1, sorry, but you blew it here. i see nothing broken. dead, yes, broken, no.
Overall Calculated Average Score: 4, nice effort, good luck! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 12/16/2004 06:21:06 PM | Happy glassby Prime_TimeComment: Composition: 6, nothing wrong here. kinda like the negative space
Technical: 5, looks fine
Appeal: 5, doesn't grab me, but doesn't make me want to run away
Challenge: 1, you blew it here...nothing is broken
Overall Calculated Average Score: 4 |
| 12/16/2004 05:59:44 PM | Got Milk?by mfairbanksComment: Composition: 8, great angle
Technical: 4, focus really needs to be spot on. also, the back edge of the shooting surface is a distraction. the lighting could use some work, as well. maybe try a different white balance setting?
Appeal: 9, love it!!!
Challenge: 10, dead on!
Overall Calculated Average Score: 8, this is a shot with potential. i would really recommend revisiting it after the challenge. if you cleaned it up the right way, you'd have a saleable print. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
