"I want a much closer crop on this. While I find the composition to be OK, I would really like to see the gray area cropped all the way up to the dark shadow of the wood or whatever it is the little guy is on, and also cropped in a good bit on the left side. The upper area has a nice, rich dark color that provides a good background, and I think getting rid of the gray would really make him "pop" out from the background." Flying Soloby Prof_FateComment: sorry, but the haloing on this is just too much. if you have an image where basic editing constraints leave it looking like this, you probably would be better off sitting the challenge out. |

Safe At Firstby novaComment: nice capture, ray! yeah, we both know you were asking a bit too much out of that lens...i know of a mint condition 300mm f/2.8 that retails for $3700 that can be had for about a grand less--any interest?
it does appear that you did well with those who stopped long enough to comment; my guess is that the detail you lost from the cropping is what did you in in the end. valiant effort, though! |

Beach beautyby raflimaComment: great finish for your first time out! and with a nice shot, as well.
i think this would have done better for you if you had straightened up your horizon and cropped in as tight as possible. it's not easy to do this in an action shot (you're pretty much having to shoot in a photojournalistic style). good eye, good capture--keep it up! |
