In the morning sunby eikidigiComment: This shot has a great feeling to it. But to me it suffered a bit from the slant to the right. I start leaning in my chair if I look too long. Have you tried a closer crop (maybe just above the fish at the top and taking out the door molding on the right )? Just a thought, but when I covered those areas with a piece of paper, it made for a much better shot to my eye. |

Charlieby KonadorComment: This is one of the very few shots I've seen that makes good use of borders. Composition is fabulous and his/her expression is priceless. Great shot. Hang it on a wall... |

SkyLight ^ 2 by myqylComment: A ribbon? Yikes! I didn't even prepare a speech :)
I'd like to thank my producer, the kind folks at Sony and my wife for putting up with all this :)
Oh, and the voters :)
But that's just me... |

Man built these walls but life prevails.by MagsCoyoteComment: I've always liked strong diagonal lines and this is a good example of one. The grey (power? phone?) box on the right side really hurts the image overall for me. Maybe a closer crop could have eliminated it? |

Candle in the Windby KonadorComment: Critique Club Comment :
Composition : Wonderful use of negative space. I may be reading more into this then you intended, but i really liked how the space away from the candle is noticeably darker as if suffering from not being exposed to the candle (person). Very tight use of the "suggestion of thirds". I also like your choose of candles. It has a very 'lived in' look.
Exposure : Photographing a flame is never easy and I think you nailed this. I REALLY wish you had included the shutter speed / aperture / ISO information so I could learn how you did it.
Focus / DoF : Very nicely done, with the background just soft enough so as not to distract from the main subject.
Background : I like the wood grain background and especially the line that is pointing down into the flame. If I was to nitpick one small aspect, the curve line on the background in the upper left distracted me a bit. Not a lot, just a bit.
Challenge / Interest : Challenge nailed. I think the only reason you didn't place much higher was that others had a similar idea and voters have a hard time separating them and seeing each for it's own merits.
My opinion : Print it, hang it on a wall. |
