Self-portrait with pencilby GinaRothfelsComment: Is this the equivalent of a human signing his/her name in blood? LOL. Kinda cannibalistic for a stick figure to be using a wooden pencil to draw. Great concept and a wonderful picture. muckpond |

Utilitarianby indigo997Comment: I love the coloring and shape of this photo. The way the background disappears is fantastic (and something I've not been able to do well....yet. 8) ) I think that I would have liked just a couple of subtle changes: the tilt of the head almost loses one of the pencils in the background....maybe a little more lighting at the top? I also wish that the the left shoulder was not cropped ...it kind of jars the great shape that you have going in the rest of the shot. And finally....I am trying to figure out what caused the shadowed lines across the back? Wrinkles in the diffuser or something? It's really not a big deal, but it is a little distracting. Great shot, though....lovely! And an excellent idea to boot! muckpond (your evil twin) :) |

Cliff Hangerby connieComment: After looking at hundreds of pictures of pencils, this one was really refreshing. The pencil is there, but is not the focus of the shot. It meets the challenge and is just a fun photo to boot. Plus, I went to the state fair this week too.... I wish the little kid had not been moving in the frame, but what can you do? |

Red and White by RemieComment: If the tip of the white pencil could be pushed EVER SO SLIGHTLY against the red pencil, this would have been perfect. As it is, it's an excellent photo and a great idea. The shadows are somewhat harsh, but I still enjoy it. |

Young Sketcherby quarxComment: The yellow duotone is kind of brilliant. A more subtle coloring would be better, I think. |

Focus on Crumbsby nicowensComment: The focus on the crumbs is great, but without the title it looks like the focus of the picture is off. Was the shadow in the front intentional? It's a bit distracting when combined with the shallow DOF. Just MHO....muckpond. |
