Future Superstar!by JarinWComment: Good use of shallow depth of field. Exposure is right. The kid is certainly cute. But the picture feels like something is missing ... like maybe he needs to be put into context. For example, if this is a hockey stick, then perhaps putting him at the ice rink would finish the picture. Instead, it looks like a living room or something behind him... Good luck in the challenge.

Woodland Beautyby channeledComment: I like the idea here... especially the backlighting of the hair. Her face seems sharp enough. But her right shoulder is blurred... perhaps too shallow depth of field? It just seems odd because it seems like the trees behind her are more in focus than her shoulder. Another possibility is that her shoulder intruded on the minimum focusing distance of the lens (a real possibility if you used a telephoto/portrait lens). I love those eyes though... perhaps a tighter crop to accent the eyes would be just the fix for this image?

Ant Hill Landscapeby HeavyComment: I don't know what to recommend here... perhaps a different composition that focuses more closely on the ant hill itself? Or maybe just crop out the bottom part of the picture that is out of focus and keep the line of ants leading up to the ant hill. The background (which at least is blurred ... good!) is still distracting due to the extreme what on the right. |

Long Forgottenby biggood53Comment: What is the subject? The post, the barbed wire or the shed in the back? The picture is okay, except that I'm wondering what I'm supposed to look at. You could also enhance it by saturating the colors a little bit more and perhaps just a slight improvement in sharpness. Good luck in the challenge. |

Autumn Corn Fieldsby mariomelComment: Stunning! Absolutely gorgeous. Love the colors, the highlights (though it's probably dodge and burn instead of real, it still looks cool). Composition is good. Sharpness in detail is good where it counts. Good luck in the challenge!

Comfort in the Grassby hallswelComment: This might be a bit of a challenge but... To help separate the dog from his surroundings, I think a shallower depth of field (blurring more of the grass in front and behind the dog) with a better focus right on the dog (right now I think some of the grass is sharper than the dog) would help. Lighting could also be used to help separate the dog. |

Couple watching a burning skyby gudbjargarsonComment: Where is the couple? (just had to ask)
I like the picture. The silhouette against the colorful sky works really well. I even like the frame. Good luck in the challenge.

Swan Lakeby SteveJComment: I think I would have preferred a cropping more off the top with more of the reflection visible at the bottom. But otherwise, this is a great shot. Good luck in the challenge!

Fog Boundby duncesComment: Very nice. I spent several days one vacation trying to get a good pelican picture. I was never completely satisfied. This image would have made me very happy. You got both birds in flight and tack sharp. And a bunch of youngsters on the water that just tells a whole different story. I love it. The framing is good (space on the left for the birds to fly into). The composition is right (small birds on the bottom third). The sharpness is good. Hope you do well in the challenge!
