One thing I really enjoy about this site is the creativity and the effort that some members are willing to go to for a challenge. This is excellent. Really top marks for effort and thought. To nit-pick it is a shame that the sky is blown out. Perhaps the use of a graduated ND may have helped. should ribbon IMO.

Well, you asked for feedback... I can't add much that hasn't been said... this looks like a potentially promising subject but somehow your picture just doesn't work. It certainly is a Macro, but I understand the 5's middle of the road voting.

3 is too low for this entry (IMO) as it is in focus and meets the challenge... bonus points because it is not a shot of a bug! :-)

So what is wrong:

Awkward angle
Cropping too tight
background distracts.. (what's wrong with a chess board?)

It is just not interesting enough to jump a vote or two... I think that technique is pretty sound, and I like the dappled natural light.
