Great idea, good composition. Creative use of lighting and I like the soft focus here, it works well for this image IMO. Cool shot. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 06/21/2005 01:29:49 AM | Ethan Strawberries.jpgby PerfectShotComment: What a wonderful capture. It helps that he is a pretty photogenic cute little guy :-) Something about his size, along the plants seems very proportionally pleasing to look at. The setting, with the hill and trees in the background is very nice. Dof and composition are great. His stance, and looking back across the scene works great. I find my eyes following his gaze, then back along the plants right back to him. He stands out as the subject perfectly, and the scene and lines compliment the image nicely. I also really like how you've gotten down and taken the shot at his level, this obviously is what really makes the whole think work, a thing that many people don't do when photographing children. Very, very nice shot. :-) |

| 06/20/2005 12:26:51 AM | Falling of Darknessby Kunta1974Comment: Nice idea. I like the image. I find it stark, yet stimulating. Looks like a lot of 'jaggies' around the edges of the silhouette. Also, IMO, I think the composition would be a little stronger if the bottom black strip were cropped out, it doesn't really seem to add to the shot. Good job. |
| 06/20/2005 12:21:38 AM | Bell, Book and Candle - Darkness of the Spiritby RiponladyComment: Definitely fits the challenge IMO. Focus and lighting are great. Compositionally, I get an unbalanced 'feel', because of the wide strip of emptiness on the left of the photo, and the rest of the subject is fairly tight on the edges. I'm thinking that maybe if the bell were positioned further to the right, it would not obscure the book or candle at all, then the handle would not be jutting out to the left. Then the frame could either be tightened up all around, or give some even room on both sides, and this symmetry might strengthen the presentation of this image. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 06/20/2005 12:05:16 AM | Refugeesby e301Comment: An interesting concept. The b/w treatment is ok. IMO, a shot like this, of a crowd or group of people, for it to work really well, something needs to grab the viewers attention, like one person doing something, or their appearance stands out, or one person looking other than where everyone elses attention is, or something like that. Or, also, to see what they are all looking at, to draw you in, feeling part of the crowd. Something along those lines. In this shot, I'm not feeling that. To me, the people all blend together, all part of the crowd, and it doesn't seem like they are all just looking at the light, so I can't see what they are looking at, so I don't feel a connection, I'm not feeling drawn into, or a part of the image. I feel that something to grab my interest like that would greatly strengthen this photo. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
