Greetings from the Critique Club! :)

I will attempt to critique your image on four basic areas. Keep in mind I'm not a trained professional. ;)

1. Composition: The composition is not a bad one, with the tree a tiny bit off center (good) and mostly filling the frame. However, IMHO there is a bit too much sky. A lower perspective and less sky might make for a more dramatic or "full" shot.

2. Technical Details: Your focus seems to be OK, but I wish I had more of your EXIF info to go on. Maybe experiment with different apertures for depth-of-field effects, and most certainly try shooting at a different time of day. The harsh shadow across the bulk of the tree did not add anything to the image, unfortunately. Shoot between 7 and 10 am, and after 5 or 6 pm until sunset. The other times of the day, the sun is just too harsh and creates havoc for your images.

3. Aesthetics: Nice, but with some changes it could be much more beautiful.

4. Relationship to Challenge: I think it meets the challenge well.

Overall, your image has some strong points and some points in which improvements can be made. Keep shooting and submitting and I look forward to your next entry!

Laurie :)

I think this is really emotive. The tones and the darkness really bring out the long row this man has had to hoe in his day. He looks rather forlorn. That's what I might call it. :)
