No question, you captured the rough texture of this critter. I can feel it almost as surely as if i were holding it. Colors are very good (both foreground and background). DOF does a nice job of focusing attention on your subject. I like that you've captured texture on several scales (big - the chin spines, medium - around the eyes and ear (?), and small - the somewhat grainy background and blurred foot.) Nice! Hope it ribbons.

I'm a sucker for 'shrooms and this is beautifully captured. Lighting is essentially perfect. Minimalist background focuses attention on subject. Well composed. The circular fringe of the cap serves to lead the eye back around to the stem, and then up to the underside where the detail is perfect. This is among my top picks for best of show. Hope it ribbons.

Brilliantly photographed. Although it feels just a little over sharpened, it does a beautiful job making me feel the texture of the lizard's skin. Nice catch light in its eye. DOF (subject vs background) is very nice. Among my top picks.

I grew up playing on sandstone cliffs with rock similar to this. You have truly mastered the texture of the stone. Well done. There are a few minor focus issues around the edges that slightly greater DOF would take care of, but no worries, it's among my top picks.

You've done an outstanding job making me feel the glistening texture of the critter. Lighting and reflections are terrific. I would have given one more point for slightly greater DOF, but no worries, it's among my top picks.

Best of show in my opinion. Meets the challenge perfectly by making me feel the texture. Add to that that it's well composed, lit, focused and avoided the trap of oversharpening. Well done! Hope it ribbons.

Great photo. If it were me, I'd lose the sunglasses, but then again, if it were me, I'd not be caught dead in that outfit. Great capture.
