Nouvelle Lune Rouge by JulietNNComment: Last, or first, light brokering the peace. Stars doing pinholes in the night. That orange moon and its companion throwing meteor tails of reflection. How many ways can clouds be beautiful? Here's one. A fine distillation that thrives on understatement.

tars by jmritzComment: Lush, confusing, windblown, sculptural, bold use of shape and tone. Can you really go home again?

Sublime by Alex_PetriniComment: Here's an image that invites one to ponder. The miniaturization of the people invites thought of our place in this immensity. The foreground and background, whatever in nature that is, are overwhelming. Not knowing what the background is amplifies the great mysteries of, well, everything. The color palette is serene and generous. In its quiet way, dazzling.

Salton Sea Geothermal Plantby LevTComment: Fine grungy, HDR-ish image. The structures and interwoven gizmos have that deadly serious mien of assault and implacable degradation, even as it's mission is eco-friendly. Can this substitute itself for an horizon of distant mountains? But even more so, it's the sky, these boiling clouds again a parody of nature. The photo is done so well that we can still appreciate the intricate beauty of the beast. Gives one pause amongst deeper discomfort.

Technicolor Worldby LydiaComment: This is really fun; her smile makes it so. Wearing this supercharged spider's head has transitioned away from demonic into a game, a wonderment. Way to tame technology, which so often can be threatening and dehumanizing.

Shadows and Lightby PennyStreetComment: Nice study in black and white. The almost tentative shadow does well on the textured wall. The dual meaning of "light" is a wink for the viewer. Modest and effective. Handsome. |

Bee's Flowersby pgirish007Comment: Nice depth of focus, throwing the background plants into beautiful softness. The foreground stalk is like a bracelet and jewel. To quibble, I wish it were a bit more off-center. |

watership downby jmritzComment: Lovely, flowing composition. The hydrant, presumably, is the watership, and the grassy bits are the downs. Working hypothesis. In any case, oblique enough to be pleasurably rewarding. If my reading is anywhere close. The rabbit secures it, as anyone who's read the book or seen the movie understands. The black and white treatment imbues it with a mythical mood. |
