An artist can find and devise beauty out of the commonplace that most people walk by, letting the wondrous moments stream into banality. Such is this photographer. And I'm hard put to explain why I feel so moved by this image. Perhaps it has to do with the discontinuities. Perhaps with the essentially triangular composition, adroitly secured by the smudges of snow at bottom center. Perhaps by admiration of his vision.
A third co-favorite.

A Calm That Washes Over Me

Yes, wonderfully calm. The hypnotic blues, subtly rhythmic, the gold necklace of human habitation stretching along the shoreline and the snow-capped mountains combine simply and effectively. The moon and its reflection, as well as the nicely placed foreground rocks, are fine touches. Beautiful. One of two personal favorites.

This Leaden Pall

Formidably illustrates the title. But, in a pleasing and charming way. The pieces of the composition come together like a jigsaw puzzle. There's a sense of mystery in the walls and vanishing dogleg street. The green of vegetation is a relief. And there are chances of escape -- the bright white door, the street drains, the streets which must continue somewhere and the bird in the distance. One of two personal favorites.

5 Maybe I'm shallow but I need a more interesting portrayal of nature. Also, the upper left patch of sky seems to have a few sensor spots.
